OUCH! Sorry for your misfortune. May require coarser buffing compound.

Any condenser / radiator damage? Be sure the adjusters check every nook and cranny underneath the hood. Given all the fragile plastic in the engine bay, you never know what the sudden jolt may have busted....

Ah, that's awful. Definitely have a quality shop familiar with the XK check every possible component from the bumper to cowl for damage such as plastic brackets, and be sure doors and other body gaps are in spec mid-ship. That looks like a pretty hard hit and you'd be surprised what can get tweaked.

Default Adjuster

Still waiting for the adjuster to show up - meanwhile I have Hyundai Veloster rental provided by the insurance company.

I made a parts list of the damage so far from what I can see.

The two headlight seals were cracked, hood and hood support pumps out, front emblem cracked, had a small crack in the windshield that totally spread out (windshield replacement), front end pieces which would be hard to bondo up so I need a new front end and fog lap lenses both cracked. Also was leaking water so idk what the cause maybe. When you tally up the parts/labor its close to the Kelly Book Value of the car (97 XK valued @ $5800) which brings me to believe that the adjuster might just "TOTAL" the car.

This would break my little boys heart if I parted with the car. Don't know what will happen but I'm sure we can negotiate. We'll just have to see when the adjuster finally shows up.. (5th day and no show - not returning calls)

No excuse for the guilty party's adjuster not showing up after five days. I would call the company and in a calm and businesslike voice let them know that you will be discussing their lack of prompt response with your attorney. That might stimulate some action....

If you have collision coverage contact your company and file a claim, they will go after the other guy.

They will probably total the car, with damage that exceeds 60% of the cars value. From what I can see, just the hood, fenders, windshield, and any other hidden damage will hit that mark. These are not cheap cars to repair.....Hoping for the best. Meanwhile, my $1600 engine job is reaching towards $2270....Mike

Default Better days

These were better days when the car was running prime. The adjuster came yesterday and as Mr Plow mentioned - it was TOTALED.

I was prepared to counter (I had done my own parts list and estimate) and the first offer to settle was $4200. I declined and then he told me that if it gets any higher he may need to total it. I told him make me a better offer.

He came back with $5300 and showed me the computer screen where the threshold before totaling was at 95%. He told me you can keep the car and we can offer you the money or I can continue and we will TOTAL the car plus we keep it and pay you the Blue Book value ($5900) minus any devaluations such as mileage, condition of seats, etc...

I took the money. I'm going to fix it even though I will have to squeeze in the time to find the parts... Up till last night it was kinda bothering me so now I'm glad its over....

I know its crazy how we keep after these cars despite all the mishaps we may have with them but some ppl will never quite understand the joy it brings me zooming down a country road at sunset with the top rolled down! Cheers to all that feel the same!

Looks great! Did the settlement from the insurance company go far enough to keep you from spending much out-of-pocket?

Default Yes!

Yes! I was given $6k and I got to keep the car. I ended up spending a little over $3k to fix plus add a few extras (still pending the 3 piece grille mesh install - just haven't had time.)

I had a hell of a trip getting here...

1 - Had the new hood shipped - when it arrived it was damage and had to file claim.

2 - 1st auto paint guy ran off with the down payment ($350) and only did about $100 of repair - had a hard time tracking him down to get my car back.

3 - The first two pairs of halo headlight rings did not work (had to order another brand).

4 - Discount tire ordered the wrong tires 2 times so waited over a two months for the correct ones to arrive.

There was a lot of other little things but ya - the growlers finally my daily driver once again. !!!!
