Front Plate Mount (Plinth)

Front Plate Mount (Plinth)
I do not currently have the front plate on my 2005 XKR. Even though there are numerous cars here in Los Angeles that do the same, I am taking a (small) risk since they have gotten a bit more aggressive about enforcing this. I have found that for pre-2005 models, there are relatively inexpensive aftermarket options for mounting the plate in a lowered position, so as not to deface the grill area. But for 2005 and 2006, I found only one supplier that offers a lowered plinth and quite an exorbitant price (about $300!). Seems high for what should just be a hunk of plastic.
Have any or you later-model XK8/XKR owners found an inexpensive way to mount a plate in a lowered configuration?
Thanks,
Doug

I have a 2000 XK8 and haven't seen the inexpensive options you seemed to have found (I only see the $300 options), but my plan is currently to run without a front plate until I get caught. I've read that using body trim adhesive to attach to the front is a great option. I have some double sided industrial strength velcro I intend to use should that fateful day happen that I need to attach my front plate. This will allow it to be quickly removed to better looks and reattached for legality. This also doesn't require any additional holes. The easiest spot would be sticking it to the front "teeth" in the grill, but my plan is to bend the plate to match the air dam below the grill. Still of slightly dubious legality but should be much nicer. Hopefully this day never comes for me, but that is my plan should it have to happen.

The problem here in California is that regardless of the actual method to mount (permanent and proper or temporary and removable), if you get stopped while the plate is off you have to go through a waste of time of at least 2 hours to go to a checking station to show you have the plate on, submit the certificate to the court, and then visit the court clerk to pay the ticket. Actual out-of-pocket is maybe $25 but, again, it is the hours of time you need to go through that is the pita.
