Front Rotor Will Not Come Off - RESOLVED
Hello,
I just did the rear brakes and rotors on my XKR, it went smooth.
Now I'm on the Drivers side, caliper is off, but the rotor is stuck on. I have PB Blastered it, beat on it (lightly) and it is still stuck on. This has gone on for a good 45 min.
Am I missing something? I remember my wife's Lexus had a threaded hole to put a bolt in and pop the rotor off. But I see nothing on the XKR.
Thanks in advance.

Seems you will have to destroy your current rotor, but you were going to replace them anyway, right? This is on an X-Type, but same deal....

I posted in the wrong place, but thanks. You were right, I had to beat the heck out of it and also hit it with heat . It finally came off this morning. I appreciate it. And again, sorry for posting in the wrong spot.

When Wayne and I replaced the two rear shocks on my wife's 2006 XK8 last October, we pounded the hell out of the rotors with a rubber mallet. No success. So we stepped up to a hammer. Still no movement. Wayne had to go after them with an air-powered impact tool (hammering on a piece of flatiron laid across the rotor) to finally knock them loose. No rotor damage at all but we were both shaking our heads at how much time and effort we had to spend getting the rotors off so we could move ahead to the next step of the project....

I had a similar problem when I replaced my disks and pads. Easy method is to use 2 nuts and bolts through the caliper carrier mounting points and tighten them a bit then slacken, turn the rotor a bit and re-tighten then repeat until rotor comes free. No need for heat, hammers, levers etc.
The bolts push the rotor off a little at a time so only scratch the surface of the rotor a little in case you want to re-use them.

Although it seems alien to whack your Jaguar with a heavy hammer, plenty of members agree this is the only way!

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate it. The only bummer is the terrible "squeal" is the same. So I am at a loss to what could be making the noise. It usually happens after a long drive, when the weather is warm. The old pads had plenty of meat, the rotors looked good, but I had no idea as to the quality of the pads. They created a ton of dust in the front. So with the squeal I decided to upgrade to the EBC Red Stuff with EBC USR Slotted rotors.

I agree Graham, but even with PB Blaster and heat, it would not budge. The right thing to do, is put anti-seize for the next guy . Which is what I did.
