Default front suspension spring assister configuration

Hi all,
I'm in the middle of replacing the front upper shock mounts and lower bushings. Can anyone tell me how the parts on the top of the shock are supposed to go together? I've got this picture out of JEPC:

Are the gaiters (8) supposed to wedge into the underside of the upper shock mount with the aid of the foam spring assister, or just flop around on top of the spring shock as mine do - which doesn't provide a lot of protection for the shock?

It may be clearer once I have the spring/shock dismantled, but I don't want to be held up waiting for parts if this isn't the way it's supposed to be.

Thanks,
Mike

The gator mounts on the bump stop lower piece. it is not long enough to go into the upper mount. It works as a wiper on the shock rod. Just finished my front upper mount and shock replacement.

Vern, thanks so much for the quick reply.

Is the lower ring that part 9 sits on attached to the top of the shock, or does it just sit there? I can slide the gaiter freely up and down on the shock rod:- there doesn't seem to be much wiping going on

On the wiping yeah I can slop mine all around too, not much wiping going on. The piece you are talking about is the lower spring pan It slides onto the shock and sits on a ridge like flange on the shock body. There is no need to buy new ones if your front end isn't damaged.
