it's probably NOT this, but it reminds me of a rockauto story - simple enough to check and rule out - check the drive belts for wear/tension, tension pulley. wise mechanics say always try to rule out the simple easy stuff first and never assume

Was this issue ever resolved? I have similar issue with my '97 XK8 it sat last year with full tank of Gas but it's been drained, new battery, plugs, injectors cleaned etc. I;m thinking it may be Throttle Body.
