I need to remove the fuel filter, its most likely been on the car from new and never changed.
Had a try at change this some years ago, but gave up as the fuel pipe nuts just wouldn't move.
Any way time has come to remove it so i can do other work in this area.... (de rusting under the car)
The nut at the front of the filter has rounded off and nothing will budge it, (iv spent two weeks soaking them nuts with penetration oil)
So time to cut it out !
Thats the front nut sorted (for now!)
The fuel lines are rusted in places, but might be reusable so i will try to get the tank to filter one off the car and remove it from the filter in the vice
To do this i cut the heat shield and disconnected the fuel line from the tank and it came off the car easy
The fuel in the tub is black, this came out of the filter !
A look inside the filter....
I cut the filter nut off very close to the filter and put this in the vice,
using some heat to get the nuts hot, i then managed to part the nuts using the correct spanner and some grips
The tank to filter line has been saved and after de rusting and a close inspection i will decide if it can be reused
The new filter came with copper crush washer but this was not on the original nut so i wont be using it
I will use the new o ring that goes on the end of the pipe only (thats if i dont go AN-6 and AN 10 micron fuel filter)
Iv also removed the return line from the tank to the union just above where the filter was ...
I will up date about this line later.
……and I thought my fuel filter was a bi*ch to get off. I had it easy compared to your experience. My old filter was only 12 years / 65,000 miles old. Don’t previous owners give a damn about routine maintenance ?
