Fuel Rail Disconnect?

Fuel Rail Disconnect?
OK. It's time to admit that I'm and idiot again (sigh)
How the Hell do you disconnect the main fuel line from the fuel rail? There is this circular junction thing right at the rail that has this clip on it which would normally prevent two parts from just simply pulling apart. But for the life of me, I can't see how the two would separate.
I'm currently replacing the valley hoses, all gaskets and seals, including the valve cover gaskets. It would be a bit easier If I could get the fuel rail out of the way.
Thanks guys - Jim

It can be done without them but it is much simpler and faster with a fuel line removal tool. They usually sell in a set of 3 or 4 plastic tools. The tool slides over the line and is used to push the retainer in while pulling the line out. Most all of the autoparts stores have them. It has been awhile since i had mine off so i don't remember which color tool fit the best.

With more searching I found a pdf on the forum of how the special tool works in this thread - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...e-07-xk-84823/ - but figuring that the chances of getting one on a Sunday afternoon would be zero I figured an alternative using a short piece of a jubilee clip which I wrapped around the pipe and used a mole wrench to push into the fitting to release it as the tool would - it is apart! The picture shows my home made "special tool".
Now on with the hoses.
Now on with the hoses.

Thanks guys. Nuts! I just used a borrowed set of those tools to release the Norma fitting. And gave them back already, of course! Anyway, I wanted the rail out of the way to replace the cam cover gaskets, which I did yesterday. Figured I'd swap them out while I had the whole top of the engine off. Boy, those old gaskets were like rocks. Waiting on all the other parts and hoses to come in from SNG, including the octopus (pray for me! - lol).

octopus is easy, just tedious and back breaker for us older folks. Now on my 03 and have seen here posted by others about DEAD center behind the TB the octopus hose on mine anyways had a zip tie on it holing it to some type of vac line or so going off into the trans tunnel. I was YANKING on mine thinking why is this not coming out, then upon better search I saw the tie, cut it and the hose came out. I pulled my hose out from the drivers side, also feed the new one through from there also.

Thanks BRG. I can at least "see" where the octopus goes (mostly). My real curiosity is the heater pump - I can see where those hoses disappear toward, but the pump itself is out of sight. I can only assume that it will magically appeared once I start removing the other hoses.
