Funny of the day
Time: 1:00-ish
Place: parking lot near upscale Mexican restaurant (if there is such a thing)
Setting: I’m putting the top down on my car
Woman on sidewalk: “That’s the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. “ She comes closer, beaming. “Really, that’s the perfect color on the perfect car.” Catching herself, shaking her hands towards me, “Now I don’t covet you understand, but that is such a beautiful car.” Hurries away.
I couldn’t decide between outright laughter and total disbelief so I settled for both. Takes away any doubt that this is the buckle of the Bible belt. God bless her…

It's a fun car despite it being down on power. If they are taken care of and properly looked after you can easily get over 200k out of them.
The support system for them is getting stronger and stronger these days as well. So there are quite a few upgrades offered from suspension to drive train.

What struck me as so funny about this is that I almost expect teen boys to appreciate it, but Commandment-following middle aged women? Guess that's its overall appeal.

In my opinion, the two most perfectly designed cars ever produced for the mass market (relatively) are the XK-E and the XK8. A lot of cars look good from one angle or another but the XK-E and XK8 look fantastic from virtually every angle. Sure there are cars that are superior in catching your attention (Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, etc.) but these are less obtainable than the Jaguars and are also borderline over-the-top. The Jaguars have a timeless grace that doesn't hit you over the head.

My lust for a Jag was ignited by a beautiful pale yellow XKE but it spent so much time in the shop I shied away from any Jag for a long time. Not that I could have afforded one any time before now. I do agree that 'grace' is a good description. Also a good name. Should have considered that.
And God-inspired? Of course, but a little Ian Callum design thrown in. As he said "Jaguars should be perceived as cool cars and cool cars attract interesting, edgy people."

Keith,
I tee'd that one up nicely for ya! I do like BRG but unfortunately I had a '67 MGB in 1971 that color and had an accident in it. A guy told me that no one ever raced with BRG because it was unlucky---I guess that superstition was more rampant back in the 1960's than today. I must admit I did drive that MGB like I had 400hp---of course when you're 17 everything is possible without consequences.

No problem. Not the first time. I got an invitation by mail to join a fraternity when I was in college. The fastest way to get me to ignore your group mailing is to address something as Mr. Appreciate the welcome. Everyone is so nice and the forum has lots of useful information. Glad to be here.

What a beauty! I had to look up a a picture of a coupe after I saw someone on the forum had one. Should have known it would be as beautiful (if not more so - gasp! did I say that?) than the convertible. Stunning car, David. Sounds like a great deal as well.
I found out yesterday when I called to order touchup paint that there is something called Jaguar Racing Green as well. The parts guy had me give him the VIN just to make sure it was BRG, which it is.

Thanks, Robbie.
While I don't wish to "corrupt" your thread with my own Jaguar Tale (Tail?) I might just a little bit. I remain impressed (though not shocked), that whenever the car is parked by people, inevitable people start hanging with the car. Was at a holiday service in parking lot with plenty of newer and similar-zone expensive (if my XKR had been as new) cars. I popped outside to grab something from the car. Soon had 6 people looking and asking questions, charmingly disbelieving the car was 12 years old.
I don't do the "new shiny car every three years" thing. Bought this one as I'd jaw dropped when I saw the XK8 first time back in 1997 and waited until now to get the one I likely will own the next forty years. Here is link to my opening post here (which was added by the Mods to the XK8 forum from the Say Hi forum. Possibly the best post in the thread is the page 2 comment from the other fellow who took stab at the car when it popped up on ebay

Still, when ya see wee baby cat like this, it is little surprise that it stirs interest. The descriptor that seems to pop up for XK-8... timeless
