Default G-MAX AS-03 as a compromise?

My 98 XK8 has Pirelli Pzero's I have the receipt and they were purchased 13 years ago, and have 12K miles on them.

Living in Northeast America, I'd like to get as much "season" out of the car as possible.
I want a good All season tire, but don't want to spend more than I have to for limited use. I'm an average speed driver looking for comfort and performance.

My local tire guy recommended the General G-MAX AS-03.
For roughly 600 bucks, they'd be on my car later today.

He said they would suffice in most weather conditions, and would offer a nicer ride than my Pzero's.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
My google search gave me results all over the place.

I have ran them on another car. for what you describe as your driving style I think you will be happy with them. They probably won't impress you in the snow but will be better than the Pzero's
As far as handling you should be more than satisfied with them.

Put the new tires and contrary to some of the online reviews, these tires are smooth, quiet, and responsive for the price.
Fine-tuned the wheel alignment to perfection.
Noticeable difference. Beautiful ride.





Also want to mention that my PZero's were rather dangerous.
They literally crumbled as they removed them from the rims.

We had access to a 15 mile stretch of west Texas highway 12+ years ago and with the blessing of the local authorities we were allowed to go as fast as we wanted, but just keep it under 170mph.

Our car had a rally computer with ODO accurate to +/- .001 miles (that takes a reading twice per tire revolution). Over a set 10 mile distance we spent the day increasing our average speed in 10 mph increments from 60 mph to 160 and recorded the data.

We had assumed that as speed increases, tires get "rounder" as the "flat" bottom of the tire get smaller and that the tire would reach a maximum diameter. This turned out to be wrong as the measured diameters quickly became larger than the theoretical "round" diameter. When we graphed our results, we found that tire growth is linear and the whole diameter of tire will increase with speed until it tears and blows apart.

Please explain how you were able to convince "the local authorities" to allow you to use a stretch of public highway as a dragstrip. Was the road blocked off to the public for this specific purpose and if so, how was that managed?

Every year in April since the 1990's there is an open road race between the towns of Fort Stockton and Sanderson, TX, 59 miles each way, 118 miles total.


The week before the event, for 2-3 days, the sheriff dept closes off a 15 mile section of Hwy 90 for about 6 hours for "Practice". A huge radar board is set up at the midpoint to display your max speed.

I've had the G Max A03 on my '97 for 18 months. I'm happy with them. A decent tire for the money.
BTW, I don't drive in the winter due to the use of salt.
