Gain Access to Top of RH Rear Shock Absorber
Hello all:
My 2001 XKR Convertible has a suspension fault. By checking resistance, three of the four damper solenoids, part of the shock absorbers, measure between 6 and 10 ohms. RH Rear has no continuity.
With the Electrical Guide, I validated all functions. This narrowed the break to a location between connector BT73 (in trunk below fuel tank (right side) and right hand rear damper solenoid.
The Workshop Manual does not tell me how to access the top of the RH Rear shock absorber.
Can anyone help?
Very respectfully, Bob G in Florida

With the body on jackstands at least 12" up, I undid the lower shock bolt, then jacked one side as much as possible (under the lower wishbone), then clipped on a pair of coil spring compressors and lowered the jack.
Unbolt the upper shock mount, remove the 4 bolts in the plate below the differential that limit lower wishbone downward travel, push the lower wishbone down as much as possible and the shock/spring assembly can come out. Be careful with the wires on CATS shocks.
Re installation is trickier (I had to zip tie the springs to the upper shock mount), but mark the springs where the spring compressors clipped on for removal and put them there for reinstall and it is pretty straight forward.

Dear Ungn. The solution to gain access to the suspension connector on the top of my right rear shock absorber is far more complicated than I wish to tackle.
thank you for sharing the procedure. It helped me decide to live with the suspension failure rather than risk creating more damage than my skill set can muster.
