Gear lever stuck in Park/Neutral
This is my first post on these message boards. Anyways, my name is Matt and I have been a long time owner of my 1997 Jaguar XK8. I purchased it new in May of 1997, and it has been trouble free until now, at 30k miles. I took apart the J gate and noticed there are two little microswitches that the lever presses when moving it out of park. Well the little piece of metal that presses the switch is broken off. I tried to solder it back together, but it keeps coming apart. If you guys could get me a part number or help me out on where I can buy these switches I would greatly appreciate it. If you need pics to help you understand what I am talking about, I will post them up. Again, thanks for your help.

It is the two switches on the right (the ones with the red circles) that the gear lever pushes down on.

Get a pic up Matt, and perhaps check w/ ken@britishparts at his store. He may have access to diagrams that we do not, or perhaps describing the parts, he could help you.
good luck.
good luck.

Those are two basic lever micro switches that are riveted on to a bracket. Jaguar probably sells the replacement part as the switches and bracket as one part, i.e. expensive. If you have the skills, you can probably drill out the rivets and replace the individual switch with a generic lever switch available from most any electronic supply company. Bolt it on to the bracket and splice into the wiring. You will need to know if the switch operates as a normally closed or a normally open switch.
