Who checked out this XK8 for you before you purchased it? Given the difficulty you had with your previous 2003 S-Type a couple of years ago, I hope someone with strong Jaguar experience did. As a student with admittedly limited automotive knowledge, you may be much better off from both a financial and an operational standpoint with a solid Accord or Camry until you're done with school and in the workforce. That may not project the image you'd like, but if it gets you through school with minimum expense and hassle, mission accomplished....

 

Yeah, I'm already planning on getting a new car soon. My dad made the decision of getting another Jaguar and I was shocked when he first made that decision. He somehow convinced me that XK8s don't have trouble like the S-type did (though he really didn't know) and he was the one who drove to Tennessee and checked it out, then decided to purchase it. The original plan was he'd buy it from me when I'd graduate (which I will be in May) but I recently got an internship for this semester and will be making my own income and I'm gonna get a new car soon. My dad will buy the Jaguar now and I'll get another car. My dad's been paying for all these repairs as well, so I'm not really loosing anything at the moment. I'm honestly just calling back between Leith Jaguar, Aamco, and Import Performances to see who screwed up somewhere in the process and making them fix what they did wrong.

Thanks but I still need to get the XK8 running in good condition for my dad. My dad's about $2500 shy of spending money on repairs from what it we bought it for. Also, Strangely today on the way to a friend's house, the Gearbox fault came back. A couple hours later when I left it was gone but definitely something was done wrong along the way with getting this transmission installed. The ABS and DSC came on and off a few times too

 

I've lost track of this thread. Did you buy a new battery, or have the existing one load tested?

 

I already had the battery tested at Autozone and they had said it was fine. I got my transmission replaced but still am encountering issues. I bought the transmission from A1 parts depot because it has a 5 year warranty & unlimited miles. I got it installed at Aamco except putting the fluid (they weren't able to do it for some reason) and then I got the fluid put in at Import Performances. After that I took it to the dealer for an update on the Transmission Control module and replaced one of my coils (because it was causing it to go in restricted performance) and I still am encountering issues with my car. The gearbox fault does show back up every time I drive it
