Default Gearbox Lurch Help

My 2005 XK8 Coupe lurches into 2nd, does anyone else experience this or is it ‘normal behavior’ for the model?
My local specialist suggesting a transmission service at approx $800 - gulp!
Thanks

A small lurch on the 2-1 shift when coming to a stop is reasonably common and seems to be a trait of the 6HP26 regardless of make. But on the 1-2 shift issue are not common.

My first thought would be to check the fluid level, or just do the filter and fluid change if you don’t know the history of the car. These can be sensitive to fluid level, too little or too much can cause strange behavior.

Thanks very much for the feedback, I’m guessing a fluid and filter change would not cost as much as a full gearbox service as is being suggested by the repair shop?

How many miles? What does the repair shop propose to do in the $800 "full gearbox service"?

My Lexus did the same 2-1 lurch. Different transmission of course (Aisin). Reflashed the software. End of problem. Is this an option w/ 6HP26?

I just had the transmission fluid and filter changed last month on my '97 and the cost was $218 Canadian, taxes included.

Yes it is, also an adaptation and it should end the problem.

What's a reasonable drain and fill cost? Here, Jag shop quote seems ridiculous. 425 to do 1x drain/refill/filter. Maybe your 800 full service means 2x?
Local "does any brand trans" shop is 150 1x and it needs to be done 2x. I have the ATF (37 at Walmart, bought extra) and filter (45 overpriced at local parts store) so total 232. At my age, getting under the car isn't an option.

Filter and oil is about Ł250 so plus labour. I think probably around Ł300 is reasonable in my opinion but what do I know.

There was an updated software, although the results are a little hit or miss and yours being a 2005 might well already have it applied. FWIW, I have an Aston Martin that uses the same transmission and it does the exact same thing, so I've chalked it up to just being a quirk of that transmission.

Re-doing the shift adaptations seems to be the most help, but the process requires the dealer software and the process is bit of a PITA. People have found more recently that dealers are refusing to mess with the software on the x100 (or playing ignorant of knowing how). I think there are other tools that can also do it but I don't have any specific recommendations on that front.

There are ways to set up the dealer software on a laptop and do it yourself if you can get a compatible cable, or there are some forum members that have this setup already.

Gearbox fluid should be changed at least every 10 years.
TSB for addressing harsh shifts.(JTB00071 2nd issue)

Action: Should a customer express the above concern, clear the adaptions, reconfigure the TCM, and reset
the adaptions by following the Repair Procedure below.
