Good Question? - If there was no such thing as a Jaguar XK8 ...

Interesting replies and not what i was expecting - A Crossfire? - man that's an ugly car IMO.
The classic SL i understand, something boring - i don't understand.
American guys - a lot of you have an American car as a second choice after an XK8.
Dipping into a 60's classic seems rife with problems over good looks outside.
My choices (if u r interested) were a Porsche 928, An Audi S8, A Lexus SC (just because i know how well they make their cars - tho' it's not a looker), poss a Merc SL500/600 and to end a Citroen DS

I do love the SL (R107 and R230), the 928, the DS and such; but my only complaint is the S8 is short wheelbase and I prefer the A8L. If I buy a performance A8, it will be a W12 car (I am actually looking; I'd give my dad my A8).

Alfa
With my budget of $20,000 I was looking at either a XKR or a 70-74 Alfa Romeo GTV. It was one of five Alfa's that I've owned and I miss it. 😔 But I also missed my XK8. I am happy that I found a really nice XKR now 😃

how about
I don't plan on owning one but have experience driving and being in my coworkers crossfire. It's been very cheap and easy to own, and honestly, the looks grow on you. In person I think they look quite good. The interior fit and finish is not as good as my XKR or A8L, but it was a much less expensive car new; and that needs to be noted.

how about a V12 VW Phaeton? this car slips under the radar - Bentley underneath ... Volkswagen Phaeton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The A8L W12 is lighter by about 650lbs than the Phaeton, is fully aluminum versus steel with some aluminum pieces, and doesn't look like a big passat lol.

i agree
I think they look homely. Not a fan of the Phaeton. I like the looks of the A8 way better. I have driven the Bentley Continental GT though and enjoyed that quite a bit; the Flying Spur is cool, but I'd much rather have the GT coupe.

no need for the insult
[QUOTE=crossfireguy25;1019931]@ LondonXK8Boy... I already stated it was not a vehicle that suited everyone's taste. No need for you to be a jerk
On another note, interesting seeing everyone's other choices. Id take any of them.[/QUOTE
Are u 15 yr old or something?
You want to drive round in a hairdressers car that's up to you ... enjoy.

Wow. Funny thing, if you look up hairdressers car, the list you get is this:
1. Mazda Miata, I would own one
2. Porsche Boxter, I would own one
3. Mercedes SLK, I do own one
4. BMW Z4, I would own one
5. Audi TT, I would own one
6. Honda S2000, I would own one
7. Mini Cooper, not my cup of tea but a great little car
Here I am showing of my hairdresser car that is the compliment to my XK8. By the way, my SLK gets more great comments than any car I've owned, and it is fun as hell to drive. With the top down, the body is rock solid.

I've never been a fan of the smaller german convertibles style; but the SLK is a blast to drive, even the entry level engine they are a fun little car. The styling "issue" is really me though; I think the larger cars like the SL and 6-Series are better able to express design with their larger dimensions, but the little cars are more involving than these bigger GT cars. I have the same view on the A4/3-Series/C-Class; they look a little off to me RELATIVE to the A8/7-Series/S-Class but are still good cars. I have to say the current Z4 and SLK are quite striking though.
I would own most of the cars in the list; other than the TT, and I own 3 Audis! I just felt they handled very poorly and I just didn't have fun driving one. Any of the others are blasts to drive.

You're not a jerk because you don't like his car, you're a jerk because of how you put it and you're a jerk because you refused to stand corrected. Now hate on me all you like--I guarantee you I won't care.
