I believe that if/when my wife's 2006 XK8 suffers the dreaded green shower, complete aftermarket hoses will be the only way to go. I want to have to do this repair just once. I believe aftermarket hoses will provide me with the best chance for achieving that goal....

For Dennis: The fabricated parts and hose assemblies cost me $54 with 6% tax included.

For Everyone Else: I had to put the hydro mechanical assembly back above the windscreen, in order to get the car driveable for smog check. I cannot find any written procedures for re-installation of this assembly, and I know I do not have it installed correctly. Can anyone point me to some installation procedures or tips - it is up there solid, but I know it is not accurately positioned.

I think you got a great deal. The components could cost almost that much, in small quantities.

Thanks for the link to Gus' site. With that as a guide, I finally puzzled out the re-install. Adding hyd fluid and testing soon. Current condition is top down and latch up and open. Hopefully, it will work. Any tips and cautions at this point are (as always) welcomed.

The small patch kit looks like it might be ok as a temporary solution. Like others, when mine failed there was a primary site where the leak sprung (at the latch, where the line was kinked from the factory), but the condition of the hose was pretty poor in a few points.

I looked at the aftermarket hoses, and they didn't look much different than the OEM, so I took my old hoses to an aircraft hydraulic specialty house, where they brazed the old fittings onto nice hoses, stainless braiding and all. For less than a set from the dealer!

I would recommend this approach to any poor soul who has this happen.

All the best,

Update. We ran the top through 4 up/down cycles with success and no leaks. On the very first attempt to lower the top, we found that the latch would not release, and we were required to perform the manual unlatch. Subsequent cycles were flawless, down to the rear window functions. Thanks to all for the help and encouragement. Today the top, tomorrow the seats that do not work. sam

Default Top remote mod

Howdy folks:
If any of you are thinking about doing the top remote mod sometime down the road, consider as I did that with the additional "showing off"(a good thing) will put extra demand on the system, therefore upgraded hoses, PRV, and latch upgrades will definitely add to your peace of mind.
(yes, I did have the beginning of the green shower long after I installed the PRV and because of the nature of that valve, I continue to use it)
