Gurrr'n not Purrr'n - RESOLVED
Hello all
(especially those of youthat have a better understanding of what goes on under the bonnet of these littleKitties than I do)
I like to start out sayingthat although this is my first post I must extend a hardy thank you to all of thosewho have left so much in the way of experience and knowledge on the pages of thisgreat forum. When it was time to find something new for the wife to drive and shesaw a xk convertible on the highway and said she liked it. It was this forum thatclued me into such things as the Timing chain issue. THANKS, Anyways’ out of theweeds and back on the road.
OK the issue at hand,She called while out, said “gearbox fault” came on, had her pull over and we towedit to a local trany shop just in case it was coming apart. Nothing apparent in thepan, so we limped it home. Long story short, lost the “A” drum. Now being me (seeintro post) I was able to track down a rebuilder with a good rep and reasonableprices.
So after dropping outthe old and installing the new, I can get her to crank, but she wont fire. (i.e.the car, not my wife). While I’m waiting for my new Autoenginuity scanner, the oneI have will not clear the codes, I’m hoping that someone will chime in and giveme some hope that it’s the ECM waiting for me to tell it that it’s been fixed. Thescanner I have is giving me a couple of codes, p0197 and p1229, seems to be ableto read but not clear. I did pull the TB to get to the top bellhousing bolts. Ihope this car is not so sensitive that if I pull something to get it out of theway, it gona act up.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Brian

Brian - what year is your cat as that will help the experts with diagnosis (adding to your signature line helps). The JTIS is also available for download under the how-to's which has the codes - below is what I found
P0197 EOTS sense circuit low voltage (high oil temp)
EOTS to ECM wiring short circuit to ground
EOTS failure
P1229 Throttle motor control circuit malfunction

Thank Steve
It's a 2000 XK8. I thought I had put that in there, we'll fix that now. As far as the JTIS, thanks, and yes I have it. Again I'm awaiting a new scanner I can't seem to clear the codes w/ the scanner that I now have.
MIL shows engine failsafe mode and will not fire, would not being able to clear the codes keep it from firering?

Well as I like to say " SANTA MARGARITA "
Ya know when I was a kid I took some pride in being able to tighten a bolt without bust'n up my knuckles. Today I wrack my brain for days trying to get a car to fire, when all I have to do is make sure that all the cables are securely plugged in. A humble thanks to all. Until next time, well wishes.
