Cant answer your question, sorry. But I have a few questions for you.
was there any hail damage to the body ? How large were the hailstones ? Was the storm brief ?
In my part of the USA hail storms are frequent and the likelihood of eventually being caught out in one of them is great.
Z
PS. does anyone know the thickness or gauge of metal in the coupe bodies, mines an ‘02 if that makes any difference.

i am getting a new windscreen next week and a repair to the center of the top header due to a hailstorm about two weeks ago. The ice ***** just bounced off the rest of the car and one of the most skilled paint and body guys that i know along with an equally genius paintless dent removal guy cannot find a mark anywhere. They both told me that they love and hate these cars as the metal is so thick. They said that Jaguars were always known for being "tanks." The XK8s are no exception. I can tell just from pushing on the panels that this is true. Whatever shortcomings, Jaguar did not skimp on metal.
Zray, cannot tell you what gauge they are, but it is quite convincing when one sees ***** of ice at least the size of golf ***** bounce off the bonnet and fenders and not leave a mark. Thought that i was getting the entire car painted courtesy of my insurance company. They should send Jaguar a thank you letter along with a premium discount. Actually on the latter i have no gripe as the premium is ridiculously cheap.
Was fun to watch the action though.

Hey Michael, how you doing.
Yeah, it's the glass breakage sensor which uses soundwaves.
Sometimes heavy rain or hailstones on the windscreen can match the frequency of glass breaking and trigger the alarm.
Easy way is to stick some foam tape over the mic and muffle the soundwave.
Early xk8's have the mic between the interior lights, so no need to drop the roof console.
