Hi Da Count. Cheech is still happy to clean that motor even though it's a mess. Thats real loyalty to pride of ownership! It's much easier when your pride and Joy is looking good and has a bow on it!

Been hand washing all my cars since I started driving 47 years ago. The last couple of years I've been using soft bristle brushes instead of sponges of mop type wash mits. I found grit can be picked up by the mits and sponges pushed around the surface making scratches. The brushes flick the grit back up the bristles or away from brush to be caught in the soap. I have 3 different brushes. One for the body. One for the convertible top. One for the tires and rims. I use a name brand soap and the wash before detailing I add Dawn dishwashing liquid to the pail. The Dawn does a nice job cleaning the top and wheels. My '98 XK8 is a daily driver that I put around 12K miles a year on. Jack

Hi Jack You seem to have the cleaning side well worked out.No one seems to use car washes we all love our cars too much to abuse them.
Does the Dawn dishwash cleaner have any salt in it? If so you need to be careful that it doesn't cause the dreaded rust.

ALAG, I use Dawn because it has no phosphates and uses biodegradable surfactants. This is the product that is used to clean animals trapped in oil spills. It will remove some wax so I only use it if I'm ready to rewax. Jack

 

IMHO the absolute best cleaning solution is Basic H... I have used this on all my Cars,,, Boats,,, and Motorcycles...

It is a superconcentrate that makes water @400 times wetter from what I heard...

Totally Organic,,, Non-Toxic,,, Bio-Degradable Surfactants,,, No Phosphates....

4-6 drops in a 1/2 gallon pail of water and a Soft Blue Bristle Brush (sometimes called a boat brush) is all you will need... IT DOES NOT REMOVE WAX and who wants to wax a 65ft Hatteras everytime you wash it,,, Which is every after every trip or at least once a month...

Give it a try.... Gentleman ask your wives about it,,, They know....

Also in a higher dose (10 drops in the pail) it is the best De-Greaser I have found
