Default handbrake tsb

Hello,

Does anyone know the exact TSB which applies to the handbrake shoe lower cable spring rattle that so many people refer to without the exact number? Does it apply to a 2000 XKR? The parts supposedly include some plastic or rubber sleeve which enclose the lower springs.

Thanks,

yyk

I just did this fix about two months ago. I had a rattle over bumps...clearly a spring or cable...and the Jag instructions for tightening the handbrake cable didn't help. Came across the TSB you're referring to, ordered the rubber sleeves (about three bucks), did the fix and I haven't heard a single rattle since.

The TSB is attached at the bottom of this post. According to this document, your car SHOULD already have the rubber sleeves in place. However, if you've got a persistent handbrake rattle, and you've already made sure the cable has been tightened (a 13mm nut under the center of the car), then your rubber sleeves may be missing.

Here are a few pics:

The spreader mechanism, just underneath the spring in this photograph, is the culprit. It rattles against the backing plate.

The fix is simple...slide a specially-sized rubber sleeve over the spring, which is thick enough to exert some pressure on the spreader mechanism, holding it in place and preventing the rattle.

Simply remove the parking brake spring, noting the correct position of the spreader mechanism on the parking brake shoes before you remove the spring.
I put some lithium grease over the spring, and then added the rubber sleeve.

Then re-install the spring, and all should be quiet. Good luck.

By the way, I have NO IDEA how the pic below got into this post. What?

I must be getting too old. My first thought was, "Don't I know that driver?"

And doesn't he have such a lovely track crew?

I must be on the way to old age too,(but hopefully not senility, dotage and decomposition) - my second thought was "Is that Stirling Moss?"
(The one in the car, not the one bending over )
