Default headliner problems...

did post in the interior subforum, not much activity there, so..

OK, have recently installed a new headliner on my xkr -98, problem is that the size of it isn't right so it kind of leaves a "hole" between centre console and headliner(se pic below), talked to the shop that I bought it from, to their mind it seems it's not any wrongdoing they've done(and suggestions from them on how to make this "dissapear" has been rather nonsense). I think that it has been cut just a bit to much. Have realigned the headliner a few times and pushed the console as far back as goes, have also tried the attachment fitting that the console clips on/into but that one has no adjustment nothing will make this right. Have the old headliner are thinking of doing this myself instead, any suggestion on how to make this "gap" dissapear are highly welcome

Cheers!

That would annoy me too even if you can't see it from the driver's seat

I can't quite see from the picture whether the shadow is due to the contour of the headlining not matching that of the console moulding? Otherwise, if the cutout in the headliner is too wide, I would be having a serious moan at the supplier - especially given the amount of work it is to replace it.

I had my old one re-covered by my local trusted car restorers as I'd heard bad things about the fit of aftermarket - and not just from them.

photos if the right side is not the best, but the black areas seen on passenger side is holes straight through, starts about at center light fitting. Have sent quite a few messages to the shop, they now don't even reply, which is starting to make my blood to boil... Thing is, car is sort of in a half assembled state, right in middle of summer

Hello slugger,

I agree that this is very poor workmanship, whatever the cause.
Yes, and I agree with Mike that you have every right to be annoyed.
If phone calls are not being answered, I suggest you front them in person.
No need for angry confrontation, but ask them to fix or you go to authorities.
If you are uncomfortable with direct approach, put your demand by email.
Most countries have some system of consumer protection . . . so use it!

Best wishes,

Ask your headlining installer to make you a yard of welting without a lip out of the same headling material, and simply glue it around the outer edge. It will cover the gap, look like it came from the factory that way, and solve your problem. It will take them no more than 5-10 minutes to make the welt, and less than that to glue it on.
