help, fuel pump issue
#21
That's the way I did mine. Took out the back seat, but you obviously have to keep the top up, so it's a bit tight to work in there. I used a
grinder with a metal cutting wheel and cut a square right in the middle of the shelf. This gave me access to the top of the gas tank and
the pump replacement was pretty easy from there. Try to siphon as much gas as you can from the tank because you will be reaching
in there to access the pump.
If using a grinder remember to protect the inside of the rag-top from sparks, also line the edges of the cut-out section with tape or you
will be scarred for life!
When finished installing the new pump (got a replacement from the local car store establishment) I hammered flat a few small right-angle
support brackets used in wood working, drilled some holes and used self-tapping screws to put everything back together again. One advantage
of doing it this way is that (heaven-forbid) the pump craps out again it will be an easy-ish job to replace it again.
I wish I had picture-documented the process, but hindsight......

golfball57,
We all were trying to help you but we had to wait until Entry #16 before you told us what Year, Make and Model Auto you were talking about! It is very important as different Years and rather or not it is a XK or an XKR, Convertible or Coupe make a lot of difference with the X-100 Automobile...
I suggest that you create Profile of your 2001 Convertible.....I still don't know if it is an XK8 or an XKR....

Hi All
Just update on fuel pump issue. I went for the option of cutting a square on back shelf where the convertible hood lies. Easily managed to access the pump and change over to a new one. Car now running again Much easier than dropping the tank onwards and upwards now !
