Default Help With Insurance

Hi there.

Can anyone help with insurance.

I have bought a new XKR and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on car insurance.

I have checked the normals but they are all book value which is no use and would appreciate any comments.

Cheers

If the car is 15 or over you might be able to go cherished car value agreed. Mine is with (I think) Hagerty, but there are several UK companies.

I recommend it if you can, although the downside is that there's usually a relatively low annual mileage limit. Mine is around £160 for agreed value of £11K, and you'll need photos and, possibly, an independent valuation.

Pictures, please

Hagerty is definitely your answer.

Tried Hagerty they were way over the others and decided to go with Insure to Go who seemed to have the same level of cover etc.

Sulley67 in Scotland......

Sulley, if you were in Texas (USA just in case you didn't know)….I would write you in our State Farm Classic Car Program, if you didn't plan on driving it more than 2500 Miles per year or through our Regular Auto Program if that didn't work for you!!! Sorry, I can't help you in Scotland…..Be sure you get a policy that will coverage the Car for it's (Stated-Value) or they might try to hold you up, if you were to have a major loss.....

Billy,

I was not able to insure my VDP SC through Hagerty, so I stuck with state farm for that one. Is there anything I can do to protect its value a bit more through them?

p-Rock,

What year is it? What's the Book Value....We have Classic Cars at 10 years or older and Antique Cars over 20 years old....You can request a "Stated-Value" for either one of these Classes for Comp or Collison.....Call your Agent and check it out!

Yes I understand you now have insurance but is an agreed value insurance? The reason I ask is that more than one member, of different forums, have sadly written off their cars. They gave their value for the cars. Say £12K. They paid the premium for that value of car. The insurance would only give book value which was less than half of what they expected to get. Despite providing proof that there was no way they could by the same model, spec etc of car fro the money they were offering they still only got less than half.

With agreed value you chat with your insurer, not all do agreed value, then heaven forbid you write off the car that is the money you get. I had to take 12 photos of the car. inside, outside, engine bay etc At least I have the thought that if anything happens I will get a reasonable price back for the car. Mine is a 2003 XKR Convertible. In excellent condition. I am limited to 3000 a year. Cost me £178 fully comp about a week ago.

In short just because you claim your car is worth X and you pay extra for the increased value that is not what you will get.

One more thing I forgot to add. If your not too sure how many miles you do a year and you are in the UK take a look at you MOT Certificate. Mileage point at each year is down so you can quickly calculate your yearly mileage. If 3000 miles is not enough you can easily up the allowance.
