Default Help! Passenger Window issue/problem

So I searched this forum to see if I can troubleshoot the issue I am having with the passenger window on my 2003 XK8 Convertible and did not find anything. When I open the passenger door, the window goes up slightly by itself...so when I go to close the door, the window hits the roof and doesn't allow the car door to shut. It's such a pain in the neck because then I have to go all the way around the car and put the keys in the ignition, lower the window slightly, shut the door and then hit the button so the window goes all the way up.

I tried doing that reset thing several times from the driver window control panel but it didn't work.

Any idea what the problem is? or the part i need to buy to fix it?

Thanks a million!

TTG, First I'd suspect a bad battery. Can you get that tested? I"m surprised the reset does nothing that's strange. I'd do a hard reset. Lower 2 front windows since they will have to be reset. Then disconnect positive terminal from battery. Hold it to the negative terminal for 10 seconds or so, then reattach it. You are in USA so super unlikely you will need radio code to unlock the radio. I do not loose my programmed stations when I do this but you will lose bass treble and fader settings. WTH - maybe write down your pre programmed stations before you do this.

Then of course reprogram the window travel. I hope it works this time.

The usual symptom of a failing battery is the window drops when the door is opened but doesn't go back up when the door is closed. This sounds more like limit switch settings have gone awry.

Is this ONLY happening with the passenger window or is it BOTH driver and passenger windows?

A failing battery would affect both sides. Makes me think a faulty limit switch is more likely but window guide rails have been known to work loose and affect correct travel limits.

My 2003 xk8 convertible had the same problem. My widow would drop down and immediately go back up preventing closing the door. Rev Sam has a video as to how to fix this. There is a bolt inside the door that can be adjusted so the window height can be set so the door will close. You have to take off the door panel to get to the adjusting bolt. Rev Sam has a video how to do that also. It took about a half hour start to finish for me to do the adjustments. I had to make several adjustments to get at the exact location. Good luck

I assume you have done a window reset? I had this problem once and it fixed it, simple and easy.
