HELP REQUEST: '99 XK8 passenger seat, won't go back (electrical, not mechanical)
Hey everyone,
Thanks for taking a look at this issue.
So, it was one of these hot days we had recently and I left my windows cracked a couple of inches so air could circulate over night. Well it rained. Briefly but a downpour. water got into the car and under the seat. I got it out and dried it out.
But somehow, and I didn't see it happen the seat went forward and is stuck there (kindly see the photo). Its not a manual/mechanical issue. The seat still will still go up and down with the latch to get into the back seat. there is no obstruction. It locks and unlocks. What it appears to be is that the electrical on the seat moved it to its extreme forward position and now will not go back. I am assuming because of the water entering the floor area.
Maybe a fuse issue? Any constructive help would GREATLY appreciated as right now I have a one seater!

98 Shadow, thanks for the great advice! I am guessing there are instructions on the forum on how to get the module out of the driver's side and then give it a try on the passenger side. I'll do a search, but if you have any tips, please share.
I never really move the seats back and forth, so if I can just use the driver's module to get the passenger back into a standard position and leave it there, then replace it to the driver's side, I would be happy with that. Does that sound plausible?

Removal of and swapping the modules is pretty straight forward. Raise the seat as high as possible. Reach under the seat from the front and you will encounter a plastic box (module) it is held on by 2 fasteners (bolt or stud and nut). Use a 10MM wrench and loosen the 2 fasteners. The box can then be slid out of the bracket and pulled forward on to the floor board area. Then simply unplug and swap. You can then position the seat where it is usable on the passenger side and put the good module back in the drivers seat.
The modules can be repaired and the forum go to guy for that is Darrell Turner. His phone number is 858-649-9090 text him and let him know you are with the forum and you can make arrangements for repair. His service is the best.

PROBLEM SOLVED
Anyone finding this thread with the same issue I had, I'd like to help and let you know that the issue was SOLVED by following the good men on this forum's good advice below. The module may be bad, but at least the seat is in a usable position now. this is what I did per the advice above:
Raise the seat as high as possible. Reach under the seat from the front and you will encounter a plastic box (module) it is held on by 2 fasteners (bolt or stud and nut).
Use a 10MM wrench and loosen the 2 fasteners.
The box can then be slid out of the bracket and pulled forward on to the floor board area.
Disconnect the neg battery cable before you swap the modules.
Then simply unplug and swap.
You can then position the seat where it is usable on the passenger side and put the good module back in the drivers seat.
You will have to reset the windows by opening and hold switch until you hear click, closing same, then open again.
The modules can be repaired and the forum go to guy for that is Darrell Turner. @ 858-649-9090 text him and let him know you are with the forum and you can make arrangements for repair.
