Body Clearances and Alignments on XK8s
Hey MRMAGNUM, congrads on your 1st XK8. You didn't mention MY in your post so what I'm sending may not be much help. The Jaguar JTIS Workshop Manual I have covers MY 97-04 XKs. I have an 02, so I zipped the pages from the CD regarding the body alignments and clearances. I highly recommend you pick up a copy of the JTIS. Got mine on eBay for less than $20. I'm also new to this site and don't think I can attach the file to my reply. If you send me your email address I'll reply back with the attachment. Its 6.80 MB.
Good Luck

That is definitely a large gap. The front fascia can be raised a little by the use of shim washers under the front edge of the fascia. Keep in mind there needs to be some gap in order to allow the front edge of the hood to dip while raising the hood.
If you look on your JTIS, you'll also note there are three (3) bolts on each side attaching the fascia to the lower fender edge. You may loosen these to facilitate a better fit.
I would be cautious about religning the hood on its hinges because of issues with the locking mechanisms at each upper hood corner.
Pulling the front fascia is not a difficult task. You can access the front bolts and three (3) push pins by raising the hood to its "service position" which is nearly 90 degrees vertical. Do this by removing the support pistons and inserting one each bolt on either side of the front hinge location. It looks precarious, but is actuall quite stable if you are not outdoors [in the wind].
