Default HELP! Trying to avoid scammed on a hood(bonnet)

Hey all,

I screwed up and it resulted in the point of my wife's XK8 hood getting damaged. Repairs look like they're going to be around $1500+ so I went looking for a replacement. Plugged in my contact info, and what I'm looking for, into several online sites and this morning my phone is blowing up with calls. My concern is this (and think of me what you will) EVERY call has been from a person with an Indian accent and a name like Tim/Alex/Kevin, etc. and I can hear a lot of similar voices in the background (call center?). Hate to sound this way but I'm not independently wealthy and don't want to hand over a CC# to a potential scammer.
Anyone have experience with online salvage sites? I would definitely appreciate you input and/or any suggestions.

For reference, the wife's Jag is a 2001 XK8 in platinum silver

Thanks in advance everyone

Jim

I've used several of these breaker sites in the UK and never had any problem. Having said that, I always collect the part in person and obviously don't hand over any money until the part is checked and loaded in the back of the pickup.

I always use 'car-part.com' and look for local salvage yards with the part for large items.

If I need a tail light or something like that, I don't care if it gets shipped from hundreds of miles away but an engine or large body part is a LOCAL purchase to avoid shipping costs and to check the large or expensive item.

Just my thinking!

Thanks for the reply Richard

The states seem to be a magnet for scammers. I'm with you on picking up in person but not always feasible here. Thanks again.

Cheers

RJ237,

Watching two on there right now. More than likely I'm going to have to have anything I get repainted but maybe I'll get lucky.

Thanks for the reply

Jim

Default I believe in my feeling and

If you feel not comfortable, no matter the price or the money you save, go with your feelings.

There are scammers everywhere and I would go with eBay with the eBay warranty or in person or recommanded sellers. Others wise I stay away and trust my feelings.

Default row52

Row52 is awesome for searching for vehicles in boneyards nationally or locally.

While It doesn't search all yards, it does a nice job with the ones in its network.

You can set it to search within a radius of a zip code and automatically contact you when your search vehicle shows up.

Most appear in "XK8": https://row52.com/Search/?YMMorVin=Y...se&Distance=10

Occasional some appear in "XK-series": https://row52.com/Search/?YMMorVin=Y...se&Distance=10
