Angry Hood Pump 40amp Fuse Keeps Blowing

Hi, I am a new XK8 Convertible owner of two weeks.
After raising and lowering the hood ok during this short time, I came home yesterday and the hood would not raise.
The windows lowered but then nothing, after consulting handbook I checked the 40amp fuse for the pump which had blown. I replaced it and tried again but it blew immediately.
The previous owner had the oil lines replaced and the pump refilled only 8 weeks ago after a leak at the header rail, but hood has been fine since then until now.
I have left it in down position for the moment as I understand that once raised manually it should not be manually lowered.
Any assistance / advice from you guys greatly appreciated.
It is a 2004 model.

AS an auto electrician I can tell you how to track down shorts ....sounds stupid but you replace the blowing fuse with a headlamp bulb. ( NOT a LED) when the short exists the bulb will glow full brightness. you then fiddle with the wiring etc and when you touch the point where the short is the bulb will dim or flicker and you further investigate ...this way you can keep the circuit functioning without burning out wires.

Thanks very much Norri for your help.
I will start this weekend to remove the motor and perhaps find a local shop to rebuild it rather than mess about myself.
Electrics are not my strong point, give me a set of spanners and a hammer and I am happy.

This is almost certainly a known issue with a simple fix. Either of the links that Norri posted will fill you in (or click "motor repair" in my sig. line below).

The suspect is a voltage-spike suppressor in the motor that fails to a short-circuit condition. Cheap and easily replaced. Please don't let anyone talk you into a motor rebuild; that could get expensive and is very unlikely to be needed.

Please provide a link for the motor repair information, if you would... Thanks.

Thanks for the help and direction to other links.

I checked on Ebay but all parts come from China and would be weeks for delivery.
Of 3 suppliers in UK all required at least 8 days delivery and would charge £12.
It was delivered today 3 days from ordering direct from.............America for price of £13.

After investigation it seems all the large UK suppliers are just offices of American companies and after taking orders here, they then place order in USA.
So I will put aside tomorrow and start again and report progress.
