This helps me feel more secure in my decision to go XK8. I've always been on the fringe when it comes to autos I like. In their own way they have served me well. 63 MG Midget - I loved it, I knew nothing on repair and it was crap. 74 RX3 - little pocket rocket. Worth a small fortune today. 89 Taurus SHO - I think it was prep for owning a Jag. Quick, fun car with its share of design issues and need for regular maintenance. The Jag will replace my 95 Jeep Wrangler. A polar opposite to the Jag.
I doubt more than 1% of XK8 owners buy one for its performance numbers. Its all about the body lines.

I've had similar experiences with 60's and 70's British cars only I owned a shop where we worked on them a lot. Great fun when they were running well, not so much otherwise.

With regard to updating the transmission valve body, I opted to purchase a rebuilt unit from Sunbelt Valve Body Builders in Florida. A bit more money than just changing out the one pressure valve, but peace of mind not worrying about wear, metal shavings, etc. in the old one.

Yes I checked them out. Looks like about a grand for a valve body. Saw your post in the thread about updating the valve body.

Hey found another thread concerning rear subframe rust. Is this a common part for rust?
