How do you remove the steering column?
1999 xk8 coupe. So I got a reach motor cable from Cov West and began to do the install. I got the old motor un-clipped but I still had a portion of the sheared old cable inside the steering column. I can see it with my trusty little mirror. But cannot grasp any thing to get it out so I can install the new one. I have all the connections off, and have removed the lower trim fascia, and have removed the four nuts that hold the column. But have not yet removed the universal bolt at the steering connection on the firewall. Even so I do not see how the column will come out. I have to be missing something. The only thing I have come up with is I need to articulate the strreing wheel to the lowest position to be able to remove the two upper torx bolts on the upper connecting point.
It cannot be this hard, for a production vehicle is should be easier, and I doubt there is a battery in the car during production yet. But there may not be a dash yet either. Help.
The first thing that came out was the front seat. A 6-5 frame does not fit otherwise.

Gave up on removing the column and waited for my son to come home. We ended up filing a pair of tweezers to a needle point. Then going in blind was able to extract the remaining cable fragments. This took about an hour of tedious trial and error. Ahh, to be young, fit and agile! He also put the new cable in for me blind as well. Picture seated in the normal driving position, minus the seat, reaching up and under the dash while hugging the steering wheel, looking thru your finger tips in order to flex a cable with sqaured ends into opposing recepticals that are not on the same axis. Another 45 minutes capped of with a celebratory kicking of the tires and a mighty loud, TAKE THAT BITCH!
