To answer the original question, 2841 miles one way from Lexington, SC to Eloy, AZ. My triple black 2001 XKR arrived today. I bought it at auction online and only so far away because I had not been able to find one I wanted closer.

Also, someone had posted back in 2010 that it was like $800.00 to ship a car from FL to CA but it cost me $1100.00 to get mine.

Best Jaguar I ever bought was right after I moved here 5 years ago. Cut the deal on the phone and they drove to my house, paid them and they left. Cant be free delivery, LOL.

I found mine about 200 yards away from my house!!!

Hennessy Jaguar Buckhead is just outside our neighborhood. I was not really in the market for a car. I was waiting for a light to change from red to green. Right in front of Hennessy.

This drop dead gorgeous black XK8 was parked at the corner of their lot. When I got home I looked it up on their web site. They were asking much less than I figured a 2006 XK8 was worth. Boy they drop in value fast!!! Glad I didn't buy it new!!!

I showed the web picture to my wife. Loved it. Said, "why don't you go check it out". I was out of the house before she changed her mind. The salesman flipped me the keys and welcomed me to check it out. I drove it home. My wife and I just drove it around the neighborhood - didn't even take it out on the main streets. She loved it. So did I.

Hennessy was great to deal with. We were able to negotiate a fair deal quickly. It was a Select Edition car. I bought another couple years warranty on top of that from them. The car is great. Now that I have had it for a little over a year it has been quite reliable and puts a smile on my face every time.

BlkCat, that was pretty lucky to find the one that you wanted on the first shot like that.

My story was similar, to an extent. I was also not in the market for a car and stopped at a red light, and saw a Burgundy XK8 in a used car lot with a sign saying $13,500 on the windshield. It looked beautiful from a distance. I was very surprised at that price.

I went back a couple of days later to check it out and drove it. Well, it was a piece of junk inside. The odometer said something like 110,000 miles, but then the salesman said that the whole dashboard had been taken out of another car, and the engine had more like 150,000 miles or more. I feel really sorry for the person that ended up buying that car (it had several other problems as well) but it got me looking and I found the one I wanted about three months later, about 500 miles away.

KD;

The color you found is much better....is that the Titanium/Gun Metal Grey?

That was my first choice color but couldn't find one in the right years, '03-'04, they look very purposeful in that color.

enjoy,

jj

Been looking since Summer for a '02+ coupe, in this specific color, low miles (50.5K) and found mine just before Thanksgiving in LR, AK. Once I reached a tentative price agreement, rode with my daughter (see came down to visit) to her house in ATL, flew out the next day to LR, gave the car a good checkout (did my homework on this and a few other sites), got a little off price since neither headrest works (motors do but neither move - an easy fix as per posts here) then drove back to my daughter in ATL to visit & break up the trip home (Jax, FL). Actual return trip ~900 miles - well worth it. LOVE the cat !

Yes, it is the Titanium color. I fell in love with this basic color back in 1971 when my mother had a Chrysler in what was called Slate Grey with a black vinyl top.

It is an uncommon color and we used to get a lot of complements on it, and I always loved it. I have hardly ever seen cars in this color.

The Titanium color in the Jag is very similar but with just a hint of blue, which I really like.

The four cars that I purchased before this were for utilitarian purposes, so I decided for this car to be my play car, I'd have to get a color that I really liked. Of course, these cars look great in all of the colors that they come in, but Titanium is my favorite.

Yes they do look great in most colors....wasn't the Aston Martin in Casino Royale that Titanium color as well?

Anyone done a Stealth Flat Black you are seeing on high end cars these days in an XK?

Course I saw a Golf in the Stealth Black the other day so maybe that is passe now for the guys with the big bucks....

cheers,

jj

Jamjax.......... that color blue combination with the dove interior was my first choice but when I lost out on one I was bidding one I decided white or black would work also. Found a black one which I thought was solid black but its Anthrecite ? (sp), which is beautiful when clean. Still raining and crappy here so no pics yet.

JF...I hate bidding... have never had a good result on ebay even when I won...people always back out....auctions are worse...in the UK it is legal for the Auctioneer to take fake bids to drive the price up...no kidding....auctions never seem like a good idea to me and now you are competing against the whole world online to buy anything.

Only had one black car a new '86 190-16 MB, the fastest sedan in the US at the time, 141mph....but soon discovered the joy of black was in the constant cleaning....counter intuitively light colored cars don't show much dirt....who would have figured.

Still T-B looks sharp if you can keep up with it.

cheers,

jj

We looked at cars everywhere from Long Island, NY to Atlanta, GA. We even took a specific route to look at a car in Hagerstown, MD (that wouldn't start! no sale...) but ended up buying in Northern NJ, an hour away. The internet makes it easy to find cars, but you sure do run up on a bunch of stinkers.

Default Texas to MD

Bought my XKR based just on the photos and conversations with seller down in Austin, Texas, and had it shipped to Maryland [negotiated as part of the purchase price]. Four year old car with 8k miles when bought, and was in great shape.
Did have it checked out by a Jaguar mechanic before final purchase, which is recommended - as is carfax of course.
Car still looks new, about to hit 30k miles. Now resides in Florida, which is a perfect environment for it.
Best purchase I ever made.

Default Way too far...

I bought my XKR Victory Edition in New Jersey and had it trucked down to Dallas. It cost about $800 for the ride.

Am in Southeast Florida, home to many XKs.

Believe the Victory Edition has the perseus wheels. Just managed to find a set of those last year - beautiful rims. Get many compliments. Had those shipped from Boston.
[BTW, still have the 19" Hydra wheels should anyone be interested]

Have to appreciate the internet, which enables us all to find the exact cars and options we want.

When I bought my car a week or so ago I had cars lined up in L.A., Las Vegas, Dallas, Miami, and New York that I was debating, then low and behold the first triple black convertible that I have seen listed anywhere near me in the last two years pops up an hour away, the next day I jumped on it.

So I go from getting ready to buy a plain ticket to jumping the car for a short ride

I'd looked at several cars up to 100 miles away, none of them Jags. Then wound up buying my XK8 about 5 miles from home when it suddenly came available.
