how hot does a XKR's supercharger get?
Hello,
I am going to paint my calipers with G2 Caliper paint. The paint is supposed to be good up to 980 degrees. I was thinking that it might look cool to paint the supercharger the same color as calipers. But am concerned about the case of supercharger getting hotter than 980 degree or hotter. Anybody know how hot the case gets?? Thanks in advance for your answers.
my car is Roman Bronze made only for the 2001 year. It is a darker green with I guess bronze flakes, it is a beautiful color, get many great comments on color all thing time. Thinking red for the calipers although G2's red is very bright, I am thinking of having them do a custom color which I would do a more sutble deeper red although not maroon more of a blackish red but still on the bright side. (blood red) would be good description although a bit ghoulish!
But my main question is about the supercharger heat and how hot the case gets. Thanks.

I assume you want to paint the intercoolers. They probably get no hotter than the engine itself...you can use ordinary autobody paint.

I've never seen an XKR in Roman Bronze. I only ever see XK8s. It is a gorgeous color and I was very tempted to buy one before I found my BRG one. Have any pictures of yours?
I think you are right on the money to tone down the bright red when you paint the calipers. It should look pretty good. While I don't know exactly how hot the Eaton gets on the XKRs, 980 degree paint should be sufficient. I've heard other superchargers can run about 200 degrees above ambient temperature and I don't think the Eaton could possibly run drastically more.

It's hot, but you can hold your hand against it for a few seconds at least.
I don't notice any difference in engine compartment temperatures when either my XK8 or XKR have been/are running. If anything, my XKR seems cooler.

The super chargers do not get all that hot and you can paint them with ordinary 2K (2 pack), just don't lacquer them, the jury is still out on that one, so far the lacquer seems to tinge a bit yellow with age.
You can even paint your calipers with the same paint, again never had a problem, only time there was a slight issue was when on 1 car a cylinder siezed and stuck the pad on which, everything got extremely hot, only then there was some slight discoloration.
I wonder if that is because of the hood vents
