Might be worth double-checking yours not blocked up or something.
Not trying to be clever or facetious, but it's not really likely that Jaguar fitted a keyhole with a blank sheet of metal behind it.
It's red sheet metal behind my emblem. Definitely no lock cylinder visible.

It's possible there was an idiot in the past that fitted a new XK8 emblem over the lock assy, but everything appear original.

I will heat gun off the emblem and check.

ungn - have you got an "aftermarket" body kit fitted ? I seem to remember reading somewhere that the trunk lock can be made unserviceable in such cases.

It's an original paint, never been wrecked stock body 1996 build coupe... with no trunk key hole:

It's probably very rare, but in a bad way.

It still could be that the emblem was applied by an idiot, but the emblem appears original.

Easy enough to check inside the trunk whether the mechanism is there or not.

ungn.

I think that's on the wrong side. The XK8 badge should be on the right-hand side and there should be a 'Jaguar' badge on the left.

I wonder if there's been a repair done at some time in the past.

Edit - Have a look at post #116 here - a member called Rezzz's car - it also looks like you might have an extra welded seam on your car.

Hard to be certain but the badge looks just a little low. Maybe bodge job when it was applied and covered keyhole.

The keyhole should be on the right hand side at the back. Your XK8 emblem is on the wrong side.

Thanks Dave, I overlayed the photos and the hole could be under the K. Its about 1/4" low and 3/8" left.

Time to bust out the heat gun.

I stand corrected Dave on that one, later years must have been on the right, mine was.

Jim. In the interests of being boringly pedantic, that IS the right hand side of the car.

I think it's just the curve of the boot (trunk) lid that makes the eye & brain think it is on the left. :-)
