Haha, ... You're definitely NOT gonna like this: At 130,000 I had to put another engine in (I know, I know: Why bother you with such a "minor" detail - lol). I wouldn't worry about it though. The original engine "was" going through oil a bit quickly, and I'll bet the IPO over filled the crankcase, foamed the oil, and roached the bearings. Oddly enough, even after the bearings started letting loose (in a BIG way), the engine was still running strong and smooth - it just sounded like someone had dumped a tool chest into it! Even the mechanic who did the swap for me was amazed it was running at all, let alone so smoothly. The "new" engine now has 133,000 on it and is running GREAT!

I've replaced the water pump, all the hoses, all the gaskets and seals for the entire intake system. BTW: be careful about replacing the rubber boots between the SC and the intercoolers - I bought two new ones from Gaudin and they ripped through very quickly. I put the 200,000 mile OEM boots back in - no problems since (thank God I saved them). So if those boots ain't broke, DON'T fix them! I installed all new O2 sensors while chasing down some "codes", but I don't think there was any need. The front upper suspension bushings failed catastrophically (costing me two brand new tires!) so those are new. I've replaced one front wheel bearing and one of the rear wheel hub assemblies. Records show that hub had been replaced or repaired by the dealer earlier in the car's life. My disassembly showed that the DEALER screwed-up the procedure. (.....sigh, ...... There is no God). There have been all kinds of miscellaneous stuff as well: New headliner covering, one seat control unit repaired, the tilt and telescope motors on the steering column replaced, bulb replacements (Int & Ext). I serviced the transmission with MERCON SP 30K miles ago. And there are ALWAYS a few nit-noid items on the to-do list. BTW: I bought the car in the summer of '12 with 101K miles on her, so all these maintenance actions have taken place in the last 102K miles and 4.5 years.

Definitely replace those valley hoses. Very few of the hoses I took off looked bad, but the valley hoses were shot! You'll have to take the entire top of the engine apart to get to them, so that's when I did all the intake stuff.

Obviously, given that I've averaged well over 20K miles a year, the car really hasn't been laid up much despite all the maintenance.

 

I hear you!! I have been that way with ALL my cars which end up looking as good the day I sell as the day I bought (longest held cars have been 13 years). I stress over parking and always try to avoid parking next to people. During many of the odd/rare times where I let my guard down, I end up finding dings.

yeah I am the exact same way.. hopefully California drivers are better but here in Utah it's common to see shopping carts left in parking lots.. and one night in a miata while I WAS sitting in the car I watched a girl hit my car door once.. she apologized.. and then came back and did it AGAIN...(I was so mad..it's like HELLO DO YOU KNOW NOT TO EXTEND YOUR DOOR ALL THE WAY OPEN?? IS THIS HARD?). Also I had some moron poke a hole with like a pencil through my soft top..that was not fun walking up to my car seeing that big hole there..... so it's stuff like that, that just scares me to death with a super nice Jaguar like that..

.. some people just do not care at all.. or they trash their cars so bad and treat other peoples cars the same way or have complete disregard to other people's property....especially near grocery stores.. and this metallic blue paint of mine shows every freaking scratch lol.. so yeah.. I"m ... paranoid I guess..

Well I think I can top you all, 162,000 miles on original engine 2002 XKR-100 convertible always serviced at Jaguar main dealers, still looks like new, and still drives perfectly (hope I didn't just jinx it!) I love this car, I've had a three XK8 convertibles all sold at around 100,000 miles, and a coupe with 85,000 miles, all purchased used, great cars, classic looks. I won't sell the XKR-100, it is a keeper. I've owned quite a few Jags during the past 50 years, starting with a "59 Mk9, then a '62 Mk10, a '65 3.8 S Type, '64 Mk2 3.8, two 1967 XKE series 1&1/2 convertibles, '99 XJ6, '04 XJ8, all great cars, under valued in the used car market in my opinion, especially here in California. I had problems with the XK8 coupe, it was a '98, timing chain tensioners were plastic and failed, fortunately I caught it before real damage was done, I replaced the tensioners with the metal upgrades using advice from this forum and youtube "how to videos". Overall my experience with Jaguars has been trouble free, look after the car and the car will look after you!

POOL NOODLES.... is the fix...I know its Extreme, but i have spent 100s getting door dings out... thankfully DENTEX exists they have done a great job on 4 occasions (paintless dent removal)

203,000 miles on the car; 173,000 miles on the engine (a story for another time - lol).

I won't claim the title though, as I know there was at least one other car somewhere in the forum with many more miles than mine.

What a great list of cars you've owned. I've driven nothing but sports cars, but this is my first Jag. LOVE IT!

My 2005 just turned 72,000 miles. After clearing a bunch of issue up around the 60K mark, trouble free since.

 

2000 xkr with r features with 170000 klm on the clock. No issues, a credit to previous owners service regimes.

 

2003 XKR Convertible - 62,000 miles
2004 XKR Coupe - 82,000 miles

 

Hi 2003 XK8 111,000 Miles. Picked it up at 96000, it did 48,000 in the first year, then 2nd owner did about 5000 per year there after. It still is well below the criteria for exhaust emissions, Engine silent as a mouse, which is why I bought it, even though rats had been gnawing at the bodywork over the years. If you change the synthetic oil and filters and hoses regularly these engines should go on to 300,000 without trouble, especially the 4.2 versions from 2003 onward.

 

My XKR Silverstone is 68.000 km.

I had thought long and hard about buying yours, I just couldn't see my self in a convertible. Just not that much good weather here in Oregon.

 

The weather thing as it relates to convertibles has intriguied me for years. I consider Australia to generally have very suitable weather for open top travel but convertibles are well and truly in the minority, yet it seems at least to a casual observer that more extreme (as in cold and wet and snow even) places overseas have a much higher percentage of soft tops verses coupes.

 

Holy smokes! UGH! I watched a teenager hop in her car and back right into a car behind her before.. not a Jag but.. ugh some people!
