Not me. I’ve driven an F-Type, and we own a F-Pace and Sportbrake. None of them are as sweet to drive as Kitty (our XKR) was. Gonna miss that girl sooooo much!
I would like to one day but an F-type pre-facelift to my stable to complement the XKR. Still undecided between an F-Type R (really want the 5.0 SC V8) or the V6 manual. I don’t know if I would make it a permanent addition. I also want an Alfa 4C, and those are likely to appreciate.
Well! Here we are in September of 2020! This Thread started back in October of 2016 and here we are still comparing the "Beautiful" design of the X-100 Jaguar to all those other Jaguars older and newer! Let's see: XK-120, XKE, XKR and whatever they call the Ta-Ta Cars....I remember growing-up out in West Texas during the 50's... We began seeing MG's, VW's, Triumph's and such but it wasn't until the Guy down the Street came Home with the XK-120 Convertible, did I realize that Jaguar was the true Sports Car! I watched from afar and continued driving American Chevvy's, Ford Pick-up's and finally VW's and Lincoln Mark's and finally Jaguar came out with the XK8/R-100! When I first saw one, I was visiting in London and it was going down the wrong side of the Street.....but I knew that was the most beautiful Car I had ever seen and I had to have one.....The Coupe is still that to me!
I am currently driving my 4th XK-100 Coupe and have no plans to drive anything else! They are Beautiful! Don't ya think?
@Scardini1 How do you like your Sportbrake? I'd rather have one of those than an F-Type.

The Sportbrake is really quite a good car. Very comfortable to drive. The supercharged engine makes plenty of power. And it handles surprisingly well. It is also more useful than my wife’s F-Pace. We only bought her one of those because she’s a little thing and needs to be a bit higher up, and of all the luxury SUVs we test drove she far and away liked the F-Pace felt best. But if we’re going any distance we take the Sportbrake.
I must add one thing about the Sportbrake- unfortunately lack of cockpit storage is a very true complaint. The last car I owned with less was a ‘85 BMW 635. Jaguar really dropped the ball on that.

like any sensible person I had my e-types before children came along. In the ensuing years I made do with a series of vintage GT-350 Shelby Mustangs, with the thinking that they would hold the kids better. Now that the nest has cleared out, the XK’s came clearly into view.
I don’t know if the F type could take the place of an XK, 100’s or 150’s, but it would make a nice supplement.
Meh ... Not a big fan of the F-Type. I would rather get a Corvette if I was going to go to a newer 2-seat convertible.
Nothing Jaguar currently sells does much for me. The XJ seems like a really nice car, the only thing they currently sell that interests me .... but it is not as nice as an S-class and I can't see myself buying one over an S-class.
Agreed. The XJL has always been on the list. I don’t care for Mercs though. I wish the Sportbrake was based on the XJL platform. THAT would have been sweet!
I use my cars, so a GT car is great for a daily driver. The suspension, capacity and overall compromise between sport and luxury makes me want to drive it all the time.
I bought my Corvette at 18, and had it until I was 23 when I bought my XKR in 2011. I hated the horrifically bad ride that my Vette had. It was able to be driven daily but you really didn't want to.
I go on trips to Chicago every two months and put about 500 miles total on per trip. I take my XKR all but mid winter when I take my XJR. I drove that trip once when I was 18 in the Corvette and I've felt more refreshed after surgery than that drive.
The appeal of these modern Jaguars is their usability. The F Type is usable but more harsh day to day than in interested in.
Well its been 4 years, it has depreciated, and I could buy an F Type R. I have since replaced my X308 XJR with my X150 XKR; so I have the 2 XKRs. I may replace my X100 with another GT car, but I am NOT looking at F Types, I'm looking at Aston Martin DB9s and Maserati Granturismos; big 4 seater GT coupes/convertibles.
I agree completely. The XK8/Rs are just fabulous GTs (especially the coupes). I drove mine regularly from MD to FL, MI & CT. The miles just effortlessly disappear when driving that car.
A friend of mine has bought a new F-Type Coupe. I've driven in it. I don't think it will ever compare to the XKR as a daily driver and/or GT. The F-Type "is" a better sports car however, but then it's no longer competing with the X100/150. It's competing with the 911 (top of the sports car food chain) and maybe even the new Toyota Supra, which trounces the F-Type price wise and comes with comparable performance. For my next GT, if I ever need one again, I'm seriously considering an Audi R5 or S5, but they're not nearly as pretty or sexy as the XKR.
I think the F-type more similarly compares to 80sRule's Corvette analogy. I'm on the same page - I will acknowledge the Corvette's performance, but I have never, ever considered buying one. It serves very little purpose.
Yeah my thing is not that I view the F Type as a true competitor to the XK; its got two doors and a big engine, and by a brand I like, but it is a different car. The F Type is objectively a better sports car, and I like them in segment, but I just currently am not interested in that segment. I actually have come very close a few times pulling the trigger on a new C8 (base in everything but add Z51, so 65k). It would be a toy for backroads and unlikely to accumulate the miles my XKRs get. The lack of daily use is why I'm reluctant to buy. That and the build quality CAN be atrocious; just look at the terrible stiching all zig zaggy on some of the dashes over on CorvetteForum lol.
My XKRs are great for tooling around. On Sunday I drove to Lake Michigan; the Grand Haven and Holland areas in my X150 with my mom, and my dad driving my X100 with my sister. Just had a pleasant drive; we went to a seafood place on the water. These were not great roads for spirited driving; just lots of boring highway. The cars are capable of having some fun when you want and capable of just being comfortable and in the background of the experience they're taking you to. They're also great value; I get asked why I don't buy a newer car, and the reason I don't is that I enjoy these plenty, and I don't change up unless I get that itch and I feel I will get more enjoyment per dollar than I currently am getting. The reason I can "afford" a lot of new stuff is because I've done a lot of not choosing to do so!
I bought my 2006 XK8 Victory Edition I was also considering a MB 560 SL. They were for me the only 2 amazing great cars that were design with this specific concerns : « you need to be able to store in a 1197the trunk, 2 full size golf bags ».
So when I found the this limited edition convertible, I had no hésitation. I knew the British reputation because my first car was a 1974 MGB.
i had all the mechanic and electric problems, even a blown engine 2000miles after warranty and I had to pay for it (2000 $ and the car cost me knew 4200$).
But still, my best road trip memories belong to my MGB. I had a Corvette and that was the best car for worry free but not the same fun to drive.
If I ever want a real fun car to drive but not to go at the golf course it will be a Lotus or Alpha Romeo 4C spyder. Try them and you will fall in love. I did test drive the Ftype but it is not the same.
I had an xk8 for 9 years. Loved the style. I moved to a 2012 xk and while it’s Aston Martinish the creature comforts are great. I like the room and trunk size even though the trunk in the xk8 was better.
im gonna stick with the current XK.
I may still be in the market in the future for an F-type, but I'm currently studying, not yet. However, if I were to buy a sports car for driving fun, I think I would be more enticed by something that's actually lightweight and tossable. I would be considering a used Lotus Exige/Elise, a 4C, a Miata, attempting the import of a TVR, or perhaps even a Viper. It would definitely be a weekend or track toy and not something to use daily like the XKR.
I had the opportunity to drive an "F" a few years ago. While the F-Type "is" a pretty decent upscale sports car (of course, it's still no 911), the car it replaced was the greatest "GT" I'd ever owned. Unfortunately, the F just isn't the comfortable, miles-gobbling, highway missile that my '03 XKR Coupe (Kitty) was. Sadly, after loving Kitty for "only" 230,000 fabulous miles, I was thought I was going to replace her with an Audi R5, but a coincidental need for a bigger car placed me into an RS7 (Roscoe). While he's certainly not as agile as Kitty, the comfort and sound system are just as marvelous, and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds (a full second faster than the XKR) definitely satisfies a need-for-speed. A good friend of mine has a V8 F-Type (not the insane V8 - lol) and he admits, it's not the car he chooses for long drives.
