...top-coated or not, and how much is vinyl? I don't want to be wasting my Leatherique where it does no good.

Front seat faces (bolsters and inserts), armrest on center console and on doors, and rear seat inserts. I think that is it.

I haven't come across a leather covered Centre Console lid (armrest) in a while.

My XJ40, X300, X308 and last XK8 were definitely synthetic. My current 4.2-S may be leather but I haven't needed to take it apart. It can be difficult to tell from the outside!

I read somewhere that where ever the human body would touch the interior, it was done in leather.

That is also what I have read, although I don't think that he console is leather, but the parts of the seats that a body comes into contact with are leather.

You know, the funny part is that it is hard to tell the difference, until the actual leather starts to deteriorate and the faux leather still looks as good as new!

I'm pretty sure the 97 "coffee" seats are vinyl or at the very least mine are off a cow with vinyl skin.

The faces of the seats are leather. Nothing else! I've had every panel out and everything else is vinyl.
Oh, except the center console. It's leather as well.my center console anyway.

Hmm. To everyone who asks, it's all real leather. Shhh

What about the wood veneer? Is that all real walnut or is any of it plastic?

The 4.2s/Victory Editions have upgraded soft grain leather including all leather seats (fronts, backs, head rests, inserts) console, armrest, door pull/armrests, door inserts, steering wheel and shift knob.

As far as i am aware the available wood veneers were:
Walnut
Birdseye Maple
Elm
Sapele

They were also offered in Piano Black and Carbon Fiber

Had a nice chat today with the Jaguar Dealership. My XKR's interior is in superb shape, but I've noticed that when something (sun shade, etc) bumps the A-pillers, they tend to stay dented. This I assume relates to failure of the foam/adhesive/etc below. Still, there is not even a smidge of dirt on the pillers or headliner so I'm in no rush to tweak. But, I raised the question regarding replacing the underlying material (and, presumably the material of the pillers/liner itself). I love the interior of my XKR, but I do note that more recent versions seem to use more leather. Sure enough, the Dealership does work with a leathersmith who can replace the piller and headliner with pretty much any sort of leather desired. Love the smell of leather I do. Also was noted that most interior surfaces not currently of leather can be covered. I am tempted to do the inserts on the doors. Maybe a softly contrasting color (light mocha on A-pillars and door inserts to complement the current beige. No rush though. Suspect to do the pillars and headliner in a very good leather would run $3k. Still, I bought the car for the very long haul, and at some point I might give in to temptation.

regards

Going to Browns Lane for seven years - you can't count that as "work".

Sometimes I think they used what ever they had that matched. Even if it was supposed to be leather or plastic, what ever was handy!!
That's what they did the last year of production. I know several non victory edition cars have victory smoked tail lights from factory. Used up what ever they had!!
