Default How to repair (DIY) the upper mounts for around 10 bucks...

This was repaired using Nylon from cutting boards I purchased. I know this stuff works great, been using it for the past five years in other cars with zero deformity or cracking...

After everything was done it needed a upper spacer made from the same Nylon. Total front vehicle height 1"

For us neophytes to the upper shock mount bushing problem, what causes them to degenerate, at what age or mileage does the degeneration typically begin to show up, how can I monitor the condition of ours as time passes and the miles build up, and did Jaguar ever improve the components in the later model years?

You should make these and sell them.

Agreed!

Perhaps at the least you could gift the community with step-by-step instructions and a list of tools? It looks like you had access to a lathe to turn those shapes? How does the assembly fit back together - do you glue the sandwich, or use screws through the layers?

Sorry to bring this "old" thread back to life, but I'm sure many of us would be most appreciative!

I don't own an XK, but I just want to say this is what this forum and all other owner forums are all about..
By the way, a friend of mine owns an XK with possible front strut issues and I've shown him this. I'm just waiting for the phone call now!

I wonder if there is some sort of semi-flexible epoxy that could be poured into the abcess created when the original foam is all gone. I can imagine compressing the springs to open up this gap, using tape around the outside of the area to create a mold, pouring the stuff in & waiting for it to harden. Hmmm...
