Question How to replace the Cigar Lighter?

The lighted plastic Bezel around the Cigar Lighter broke and fell through along with the lighter socket! I was able to fish all the broken parts out through the hole with my Extension magnet and Needle nose pliers and hooked up the new Bezel Light and have it seated in the hole...Then, I hooked-up the Lighter Element and aligned the grove and it went down about 1/2 an inch and stopped.....What have I done wrong? or where can I find directions to complete the job....I use the Lighter socket to power my Radar Detector.....The new socket cost me $50.00 and didn't even get a Lighter......and wouldn't you know it? I got a TICKET....Please, could someone help me?

Billy,

I've only ever replaced the lighter with the console removed from the vehicle. This is the view of the lighter from below:

I think the only way to fit it is to put the green bezel in from the top and then snap the lighter body into it from below. Can't see a way of doing this without removing the console.

Center console has to come out. Be careful, there is not a lot of slack on the lighter line it was a PITA to replace.

The light now shines into my Ash Tray and you can see where I keep my Valet Key....The Bezel now lights up around the Lighter!

GGG & dsd, Thanks for you suggestions, I appreciate your Help!

Because the Lighter Bezel (Green Plastic) broke into pieces causing the Lighter socket to fall through and down inside the console....I was able to fish it out with an extension magnet and a pair of needle-nose piers.....I pulled the wiring out with the broken parts through the hole that all this stuff fits in down by the Ashtray.....I had no idea how to replace the darn thing, so I sent out an SOS! I appreciate all your answers but after thinking about it...…….I figured that if it came out through the Hole it had to go back in through the Hole......Yea it's HOT and Sweaty down here in Texas in July but these old Texas brains still work...Hot or Not! Yes you can replace the Lighter Bezel and the Lighter socket through the Hole that it fits in.....You Pull al the wires through the Hole - Hook up the wire to the Plastic Bezel. Then hook up the wires to the Lighter socket...through the Bezel and hold it to one side.....Push the Bezel back down in the Hole part way, making sure that the Ash-Tray light is facing toward the little white plastic window in the side of the Ash-Tray...….Then push the Socket into the Bezel aligning the groves which are on the left-side of the car and push it down about 3/4's of the way....making sure everything is all lined up and then push both pieces on down into the hole until it seats....Lighter works great and I've got my Radar unit working again!!! So, the answer is NO you don't have to remove the console to replace your Lighter...Follow these directions or come down to Houston and I will show you how!!!! Hooray! The old Texas Boy has done it again!! Check it out!

Billy,

Remarkable.

Your next challenge is to work out how to replace the timing chain tensioners through the oil filler hole.
