How to save 265% on rotor and brake pad replacement AND get more stopping power?

I believe 300mm is for pre 2000 XK8's and for 2000 and up they switched to 325mm.
I'm not SURE I need to replace them, but how much does resurfacing cost? And how much material must there be left?
I was quoted 2h for the replacement, which seems like a ripoff. I guess a cheap car mechanic could do it in an hour, any reccs for one in San Francisco?

It cost something like $11 each on my last rotor resurfacing. I chose to use a auto parts store with a machine shop over Autozone/OReilly/Advance to get a higher quality person doing the job. My rotors have to have 1.024" left--the minimum thickness is usually stamped on the rotor. See Raysbestos.com for more info on brakes, etc.--including a warning on cheap Chinese rotors.
Shops really don't know how long brake jobs will take due to unforeseen circumstances. They may have other issues come up, like caliper problems, abs problems and/or cylinder problems. They may also run into suspension issues. Jag brakes are nothing out of the ordinary for a good shop, however.
If you're doing the job yourself, great instructions with pictures are found @

Beware that Service Advisors in car dealerships are not your best friend. They're highly paid commissioned salesmen going for the throats of little old ladies for $2000 brake jobs that should be closer to $250-300 including parts.

BTW, talked to three brake centric mechanics in SF, one said that rotors almost always had to be changed on "european cars", the other suggested just changing the pads and the last one said "I always have to change the rotor on Jags as they're designed to eat the rotor". Big cat, tasty rotor..
So! I've ordered the Wagner thermoquiet semi metallic pads and I'm getting the centric premium rotors (~65 a pop), heard good things about them and according to centric they're not made in china. Prob the best value rotor out there for the XK8.
130 for the rotors, 47 - an amazon $15 rebate for the pads, $95 for the job at house of breaks (best quote I got, bleeding is only $47 extra if needed).
Total: $257!
Cheers and thanks for the advice.

I agree with your guy who said to change rotors and pads.Buy the best you can afford.most of the guys here have tried different setups and from there you should see what makes sense for your driving habits. Its an easy job to do the pads and rotors, have fun! Take pictures of the project and post them for us!!
