Hydralics for roof

Hydralics for roof
Has anyone replaced the hoses for the convertible roof. Has anyone gone to a hydraulic hose maker and have them make up a set as Jag's seem to be a bit pricey. Also on U tube saw short description of how to replace this person said that the leak appeared to be in the section in top of the windshield. I was wondering if possible to just cut out this section and make new shorter pigtail for this area. This would save removing all hoses through the interior.
Look forward to your thoughts.

Ship - several members have replaced the hoses - can take about 8 hours to replace all 6. Tops On Line or Cabriolet Hydraulics offer cheaper alternatives to the Jag hoses but are MUCH better quality. As for trying to repair with a splice - not worth it - just gives another point for failure in the system.

You don't say what year your car is. There was some improvements made over the year. Do you currently have a leak? Additionally, follow the link in the second post for a mod to the pump that helps prevent hose failures due to excess pressure.
Check out the threads listed below. They reference hose makers with an excellent reputation and the steps to change come of the hoses.

Changed mine two weeks ago. Used hoses from Top Hydraulics. Great product and customer service. Their hoses are higher pressure rated than OEM and thinner. Thinner made them easier to pull through.
Took me longer than 6 hours, but I did other things as well. Two people would make parts of the effort easier.
The best fix would have been for Jag to use an electric motor for the latch vs. running a pair of hoses from the trunk to the windshield header!

Don't be intimidated by the hose replacement. I used a local hose fabricator and all is fine. You will need to take them out to give to the fabricator so they can duplicate them.
I bought a used set and had the fabricator use them as a template. They can transfer any unique fittings to the new hoses. Saved me a bunch. I have now done two xk8s. Tedious but worth the effort.

ALL THE WAY.
Turn the little handle all the way to the OPEN position.
This for the CLOSING of the roof.
Opening it requires the valve be OPEN also but part of a hinge in the rear section CAMS-OVER so it is locked in place unless you press that section of roof frame inward or you will bend the living **** out of the frame.
The frame RAMS pull down on that point so you can pull on that point to get the frame unlocked or push inward and down on that same hinge point.
Two people (pushing and/or pulling) will get the hinge points unlocked to lower the roof safer than one person 'one-side-at-a-time'.
