Default Hydraulic Boot lifters?

When I release my boot either by dash button, key FOB, or button on the boot, the lid only rises about 3/4". I must then pull it the remaining distance to open.
I replaced the hydraulic lift cylinders shortly after getting the car. Is the deck lid supposed to rise more, or is this normal?

Normal. Some of these cars manage to open the trunk lid a full inch when the release button is pressed....

Confirmed normal; both my 2005 and 2010 just pop open and then I must lift it, just like the bonnet (aka hood). Had to replace the gas lift cylinders for the boot and bonnet (trunk and hood) when I first bought my 2005 as the old ones would not keep either up; no issues since 2016.

Hi Jon, +1 to that for all XK8/XKR I have seen. Our MY04 lifts only sufficient to clear the lock. Same on XJ8s and X-Types.

Without hijacking this XK8 thread, can I ask you just a quick follow-up question of comparison with S-Type. All I have seen send their boot (trunk) lid skyward. All appear to have factory spec struts. Yours?

My S opened fully, the XK8 just a smidge.

^^ What he said. When I sold my 2005 S-Type more than three years ago, it still had the factory trunk struts and they always sent the trunk lid flying open like a rocket taking off from the launch pad....
