IDS SDD

I tried both mongoose and da vina interface before the rotunda.
Later cars may be more accomodating.

Does SDD properly detect the cable and it won't connect to the car? Or are you having issues with the cable and SDD?
If the latter then what sort of PC are you using?
I had a perfectly working setup on an old laptop and then moved to a newer PC that had USB3 ports and I would get an error when trying to detect the cable. Tried VMs and all sorts of stuff to no avail. Turns out, Windows has a bug in the USB3 driver for the Intel USB chipset that was causing this and my solution ended up being to install Linux on the laptop and run SDD in a VM. Works great and performance is better too.
Stupid technology.

Ok, I've used the VM on both a W7/32-bit(from around 2009) and a W10/64-bit("new") tried various version, 125, 131 and one more iteration(higher), (the 160.4 was a "clean" install on W7/32-bit laptop), it seems the driver installs just fine for the mongoose on both hardware options within VM, but when trying to connect to car it freezez up the whole thing,
Interesting you mention a USB problem, because that's what it looks like on error message upon freezing,
will have another go at it, and as you are saying might try VM via Linux OS on the W7/32-bit laptop as that might cure it
Cheers!

It is the underlying OS that was the issue in my case, and Win7 / Win10 both use the same USB3 driver. Didn’t matter what was running in the VM for me, if I tried using it on the newer laptop with USB3 ports and Windows, it gave the error.
I had to install Linux as a dial boot option on the PC and then run Win7 and SDD in a VM form there.
Can you post the error message?

Ok, thanks, posted the pics on a UK Jag forum https://www.jaguarforum.com/threads/jaguar-sdd-virtual-images-for-125-130-138-160-easy-install.108460/page-11 from which the original "images" came from, pics on there on the last two pages,
I'm doing a clean install of Linux on my W7 laptop just now, no need keeping that W7 anyway, passed best before day long time ago,
Will try via this setup this weekend, happy days if it works!
Cheers!

Ok, so did have a go at it, including more than one version of VirtualBox/Linux, ended with Virtualbox 6.0(or lower is needed if not hardware virtuallization is present), and by using that, needed to downgrade to Linux/Mint 20.0. Sooo..a clean install of Linux, tried to run the V125 image in VirtualBox, did not work, crasched out exactly as it did on the W7 setup. Did try the v130 and that seemed to work, as the driver installed OK, had a look at it in the mongoose app, no error message, looked like it was on track for hooking up with car. v130 loaded SDD and tried to revert to IDS (since my car is IDS only), but then crasched/frooze...so I think the computer/software has won...

OK motorcarman, you are right, I just used the image of the v125 thinking it was all good(and perhaps it is, just me not knowing how to use it...), the icon on desktop is shortcut to tabman.exe in teh IDS runtimes(?), IDS does start and I thought that all was OK(and also reason for me to believe that the 125 was still IDS), there is a SDD folder, did try and start SDD.exe instead, it did fire up but got thrown out due to ID/passw not correct, I'll see if I can get a hold of that somewhere,
Cheers!

130 will only launch legacy IDS tools from SDD (browser app) after it figures out your vin is too old

I remember my buddy (that still worked at the dealer after I left) told me that they could circumvent SDD and go straight to IDS but I don't remember what version that the standalone tabman was discontinued.
He did mention that the 'feature' was taken away at some point.
I only run an old Dell C640 XP Pro 32 bit on IDS 118.5 but I do have many versions of SDD saved on a Hard Drive that I NEVER USE.
A cheap used laptop with a fresh install of XP Pro on eBay has got to be the cheapest route to go IF you have an original VCM.($50-$75? laptop on eBay?)
I did have a DrewTech Mongoose Pro for a short time but sold it to a forum member when I got my VCM and NEVER LOOKED BACK! (never learned SDD)

I have had more luck with standalone IDS on my 2000 MY.
You will require Rotunda VCM, not mongoose.

THe Mongoose came from China I believe so I was a little worried at first but all has been fine and they offer pretty good support.

I can tell you what I did. I went to a website reference below and ordered a JLR Mongoose. They said it came with free software. It had a disc with version 160 on it but I let them into my computer from the UK using Teamviewer and they loaded everything while I watched and communicated using WhatsApp on my smartphone.
