Finance dept is more profitable than sales for lots of dealers.
Dealers don't actually like cash deals because they make more with the financing on top of the deal. All Finance companies pay the dealers off the top when the car is sold.

FYI Dealers love leases because then they get a chance to sell the car twice...and they make more profit the second time around.

I love salesmen that try to pre qualify you by asking what car you're driving now...thinking you are going to trade and picking your income bracket by it.

A buddy who managed Porsche, Audi and Jaguar dealers told me that if a guy came in in a tie and jacket he knew they would have to finance the car....but if a guy comes in a golf or polo shirt he knows they will be insulted to be asked about financing because they are going to write a check for the car.

Buddy at a Ferrari shop told me that he knows the guy will never buy if he says I have to talk with the wife first. No one buying cars in that bracket needs to ask the wife.....

Exactly right. I've finally learned not to tell them that I'm paying cash. Either they don't care or it's a negative, as you explained. Now I have to start dressing in a suit, what a chore
