Default If you placed bets I'd change paint at last minute, you won!

So I saw a sample of my new Ferarri Nero black metallic in the sun this morning at 8 am (a amall sample panel he sprayed yesterday) and it let me down. It was definitely metallic but unless you're literally 1 foot away, it basically looked black. Actually even a bit blue, not what I was going for.
So I texted my painter, said hold spraying color, and ran to paint supplier. After I checked what seemed like hundreds of swatches, I found a black brown I liked. He said he could make me a spray can to test. COOL!! 19.00.
Took it outside and sprayed a trim piece and DAMN! It was amazing!!
And funny thing was, it was the first brown tone I found weeks ago. Black Walnut Metallic. Bought a gallon, another 465.00, took it to painter's and BAM, I've got a super dark brown metallic car in the works. He finished the fenders, nose, rear and they look absolutely stellar!!
I'm going tomorrow to check a few things so I'll get a sneak pic or two.
Now I'm really wanting to customize everything I can. I'm even going to make custom wheel centers from XJS bonnet growlers with the new 2011 growler outer rings.
Here's a close up of the color.

New wheel centers. Just ordered all the badges. They actually sit deeper in the center. Not as big as they look.

Just for reference. Here's the Nero black sample with the black walnut chip beside it. If you placed bets I'd change paint at last minute, you won!-image.jpg
Much darker than the photo.

When I walked in and saw the front nose painted in my new color, it literally took my breath away. I've seen the factory black copper from 2006 and this is sooooo much darker and deeper. The black metallic looked like any other black metallic.
I'm glad I went mp back to my initial vision of what I wanted. I let too many people talk me into the black. Now they are even blown away!!

That new color positively makes the Nero black look pale & grey by contrast. Well done!

White and white and white. With dark stained floors. See how easy that was?
"

I can finally say this is it for this car. After this is paid for, I'll turn my sights on the interior. I'm obsessed with the idea of a totally custom interior. Two toned seats, door panels, etc........the black suede inserts look good but.........
Seriously, the paint is freakin off the chain!! I've now got to change his name. Was "The Hessian" a friend suggested "Godiva"! The other suggestion was "***** Wonka" NOT!!
Of course, being a drop top, Godiva seems to fit!! Lol
So does that mean now my car is trans gendered??????

the new wheel centers look very classy! I like the new color but just wondering how it will look with the black top and headliner.

It looks great with the black top and headliner. This color looks black in regular light and at night, but with the sun, it shifts to a very dark metallic brown. But anywhere the sun doesnt hit it, its almost black. And I'm also changing all the trim to a satin black where the Dorchester grey is. Also have the black mesh grille so there should be plenty of black details to tie everything together.
One other thing I'm debating is the trim around the front wind screen. On my miata, I painted out the body color black around the windshield and it was so cool. Thinking about that as well!!

philhef,
When you finally made the decision to go with the metallic black rather than the dark walnut, I was disappointed (for you). I just didn't think the black was very rich or warm, non metallic blacks are great but not the glitter metallic ones. The deep brown colors like the one we previously discussed on the Porsche or the Enclave are captivating and stand out because of their warmth, beauty, and rarity. Great choice, hope you're happy about your decision (for at least a month or two). Can't wait to see the whole package.

Anyone want to bet against him changing his mind again in the middle of his paint job and the painter has to start over?!

If I were the painter I'd really be considering hiring a contract killer with Phil's money if he did that. Of course, with the mission to discretely eliminate Phil.
