I paid 24k for my 2003 XKR after my previous coupe, a 1997 XK8 was totaled. The mileage was 49k (it now has about 52k) accounting for the high-ish price. That and the handling pack was a rare option from 2003-2006 ($7k when new).

I calculated the value will drop by about 10k once the car hits 65k miles, predictions of future classic status notwithstanding. The only expenses so far have been two new front tires and some brake pads that will be going in soon. I also transferred the stereo system from my last car into this one and upgraded the built in K40 radar detector.

According to Blue Book I overpaid for my 98 XK8 (paid $16K with 15K miles just a few months ago)....however, it is in pristine showroom condition, all original except new Michelin tires, and the exact color combination I wanted (Sapphire blue/Ivory).

I don't expect these cars will go up in price in my lifetime (I'm 60) and mine certainly won't as it's my daily driver and will be a very high mileage car by the time I sell it....so I enjoy it now for all it's worth. Luckily I live in Cali and can drive it year round. Cheers

Bought my 01 XKR coupe from a friend, in 2011. He'd had it from new and I got FSH. Cost me $15k. Spent a bit replacing the tensioners and bushings. 62k miles when I bought it. 93k now

I'm looking to buy an F type coupe next year, but I'd be wanting at least $20k for the XKR (because I like it so much) so I guess I won't be selling. I'll sell the 370Z instead, or the wife's Fat Boy.

Either that or I'm going to need a bigger garage.

"To be honest our cars start to look a bit outdated," was posted a couple of days ago in a previous post on this thread. And while some may feel that way, my experience with my XKR is that there is almost never a day where I don't receive an array of compliments on its appearance, at the gas station, at the supermarket, wherever.

In the past 48 hours I have been stopped 5 times and complimented on its looks. This includes driving on the 405 freeway where a gentleman in the next lane sped up to get even with me so that he could give me the A-OK, thumbs up hand gestures, as well as a gentleman at the golf course, today, who stopped me in the parking lot and asked if I was interested in selling it to him. If this is what "outdated" looks like, then automakers ought to be learning some lessons about design and what really is pleasing to consumers. Again, I'm too busy racking up miles enjoying my car to worry what it's going to be worth down the road, but I sense a slight change in the value of these cars, a tightening up of the pricing, and a higher desirability. I believe the future is good for value of this series.

I came across a couple of articles this afternoon that I think sum up nicely the strong points of our cars. Here are the links:

I have to agree... having owned one of these before I'm now looking at buying another one here in Taiwan (I think there's less than 10 in the country), the option is to buy the new shape, but the <2006 shape, more so than the F type, goes back to the E type. Smooth lines that are missing from many of today's GT coupes and sports cars, which have gone more angular and aggressive.

I'm not sure that they'll be collectible anytime soon, but they will remain a classic cruiser ad infenatum...

Default Compliments received every week, just like TBerg

I too get unsolicited compliments on my car every week. It's my daily driver but I only drive about 3,000 to 4,000 per year, so compliments per mile is extraordinary.

For the month I had my car up for sale, those compliments caused me to reconsider along with other factors.

BIG QUESTION I have is whether performing modifications on a 12 year old coupe with 94,5000 miles is a bad idea.
1. Handling improvements: larger rear anti-roll bar and lower frame braces front and back from Ultra Racing ($750 in parts alone), and lowering springs (if someone can attest they really help handling vs are just an appearance preference).

2. Supercharger upgrade via lower pulley from a vendor that maintains "harmonic balance" function that AVOS has warned is deliberately dismissed by at least one vendor.

Terrible idea if you're going to sell it....fantastic idea if you are keeping it and will get to enjoy the upgrades for a while.

Default 2000 XKR Coupe for $13,300

I just picked up my 2000 XKR Coupe with 98K for $13,300 from a private party, which was about $600 over the KBB for an excellent car from a dealership, but I could afford to do so and felt it was worth it. The comment/compliment I receive most often is "Wow, I've never seen a car like this before."

After recently learning that the front wheel are bent, and of a number of other maintenance issues (brakes, a knock in the suspension, damaged oil pan), it seems I will be putting another $5000 into the vehicle. Again, it's worth it to me to do so.

My car is nearly showroom condition, with only a minor paint blemish on the trunk. My only regret is that I have the 4.0 and not the 4.2.

How ironic then that I find a 2004 4.2 on cars.com that is nearly identical to my car- only a twenty minute drive down the road, for $18,000! I had to drive a full day to pick mine up from Chicago. I'd never seen an XKR Coupe until I bought mine, and now there's a second one practically next door.
