Inner Tie Rod Help
Hi. I have a 2005 Jaguar XK8 4.2L. I just changed the outter tie rod end links and need to get an alignment, however, I replaced the upper shock mounts a while ago and some of the shims came out of the upper control arm and cant remember where they went. I called the Jag dealer in Orlando and he told me theres no science to putting those back in. This is not a daily driver, I just drive her on the weekends but if their gonna change me an arm and a leg to do an alignment, i might as well do everything. I just got the upper control arm bushings that were NOS from Jaguar and will put those on soon. But Im trying to find inner tie rods and their really hard to find. Only found 2 different ones on ebay but one is from Black Dog Manufacturing and cannot find ANYTHING about this brand on the web. Does anyone know of a brand or know other model cars that are an exact fit? I dont want to buy the Jaguar brand because their $600 on ebay. If anyone can help that would be great. Sorry for the long post

Just doing a quick look, for that money you could get a reman rack on rock roto. I did see on eBay they list the Lemforder inners for $109, and they say in the application chart, that it fits down to a 1997. If that's the case you would have more options as rock auto has a Beck/Arnley for $21.79 each, which is what I used.

i will look into those. I guess they believe in their part if its a 3 yr warranty. But for $22... that sounds too good to be true. Did they feel tight?

Ok so how the hell did yall get your inner tie rods off??? This dam thing is kicking my a$$. I rented the advance auto inner tie rod tool but its just too loose and slips off. Same goes for the harbor freight tool. Only thing i havent tried is the tool from auto zone where it just clamps on and need a 3/8 socket. Anyone have any ideas on getting this thing off?

I believe I used an adjustable wrench.
Take the rubber boot off. Aren't there flats for your wrench on opposite sides right above the inner threads on the inner tie rod?
Mav its late and a few years past. Are the flats visible on your new inner tie rod?
John
**just checked. Yes I used an adjustable wrench for inner tie rod. No special tool required. Discussion about this indicated that removing the rubber boot will make things easier (sounds bloody obvious, I'm just relaying info from this topics history)

i got everything off except the inner tie rod lol. The tools I have are not a perfect fit. The only tool that fits is the 1-7/16” and its just a hair too big. It keeps slipping. Im gonna try to heat it up and get that c clamp style tool too see if that works any better. Do you remember what size the inner tie rod was?
Get a large adjustable wrench...
