Installed my Adamesh Quad Taillights this weekend.
The pictures are in the gallery.
The lights come packed well. Bubble wrap on everything. The lights come with 4 load modules. These are to fool your car into thinking it still has light bulbs While the LED’s will work fine without them you will get a “check rear light” message.
The kit also comes with bullet connectors and 4 bulbs, 2 yellow, 1 red and 1 clear. Not sure why 3 different colors. It also comes with 2 pages of instructions with color pictures. The instructions are easy to follow.
The hardest part was the fitment. I know bolt on body part have to be worked to fit. These have to fit in 3 dimensions so work carefully. I had to file material of certain areas to make these fit. If you shave too much there is no way to add material. The bolt holes do not line up very well. The 3 studs that hold these on are held in place by nuts. I recommend loosening these nuts. It will give you some wiggle room as you fit the lights. I was not able to get the right side on with the gasket in place and had to install without it. There is a lip all the way around the hole so I don’t think leaks will be an issue but it remains to be seen. Sprayed on water from a car wash might get in though.
I ordered mine pre-painted. I would recommend ordering them unfinished and fitting them first. I did not scratch them during install but there were some dings they painted over and I would like to have finished them better. You can see some gaps in the pictures. I will work to tighten up the fit later.
The wiring is easy by comparison. I used Scotchlocks because I did not want to cut off the connectors. You can also use the bullet connectors. Because there were 5 grounds all coming together I soldered those and used heat shrink tubing. All other connection are Scotchlocks. I can remove these and put the stock lights back on in minutes if I need to.
The instructions say the load modules get warm during use. They don’t, they get HOT. Hot enough to burn your hand if you hold them too long. Because there was no place to put them I made some brackets for them. I had some 1/8 inch aluminum plate (would have gone thinner if I had some) and cut it to fit. It was not wide enough to cover the whole area but it turned out pretty well. The aluminum also acts as a cover and heat sink so hopefully the load modules will last longer. The load modules meter more like diodes than resistors about 1.3 to 1.8 Meg one way and open the other and with the heat they put out I can’t believe they will last unless something is done to reduce it.
Anyway, that the Adamesh Quad Taillight kit. It took about 10 hours total, including 2 trips to the hardware store and the time to make the brackets. Overall it looks good and works fine but getting it to fit properly will take some time. I am going to see if Adamesh will sell me another pair of LED rings as the red ring is just a passive reflector and I’m on a kick to remove the color from my exterior plastics. The LED ring and reflector are inverted from the way they are shown on the Adamesh website, they came this way.

With all due respect . . .
I am impressed with the time and care you took with this installation and I am sure there will be plenty of others who feel that the Adamesh lights are an improvement. Unfortunately, not me. Exterior mods to a car that already looks like a work of art are dicey at best and these tail lights, especially, look like one mod that just results in a different look but not necessarily better. In fact, in the photo that shows the original on the right and the Adamesh on the left, the original just looks more clean and natural.
Just my opinion.

I guess it's a matter of opinion. Yes the stock looks cleaner, QC is better and I had hoped for a tighter fit but the stock lights look plain to me just like any other car out there. And it's all part of some other mods I'm doing. I have the clear front and side marker lights and will order the rears soon. I have the mesh upper and lower grilles on the way. I'm looking for a tonneau cover. I hope it all looks good together.

I think the comment of the stock lights looking more natural is just because we are used to them. I think these are a big change and will take a while to get used to. It's like a girl going from a brunette to a blonde... at first you hardly recognize her and after a while, you can hardly picture her as a brunette again!!!
As far as the lights go, I like them because they are different... not neccessarily better. I like to be unique, and these are. Just don't go putting flares and a hood scoop on...

Seismicguy, don't worry, the mods aren't that severe. I'm not changing the basic structure of the car. Clear plastic all around, the lights, the quad tips on the Mina's and mesh grilles. I stop there. All easily reversible.
Catman, I like the different look too.
Jaguar6286, The color is actually a good match but I noticed as I downsized the pics for the gallery the slight difference was amplified. You can't tell when looking at the car. What bothered me more were the gaps where the fit isn't quite right (yet).
Well, it's 2 to 1 against so far. I'll get some pics in the sun with the whole car and ask again.
Part of why I'm doing this is that to make a car mine I have to work on it and put sweat into it, not just drive it. Every time I do a mod I become more familiar with it. I used to restore muscle cars and I have to touch more that the steering wheel to really own it. Some mods will be successes and some failures but I learn something new every time. It's fun and there's the sense of accomplishment when a mod works out.

Hi Mike,
Congratulations on completing the job...................that's a lot of work! I'm glad that your resistors are doing their job properly. It seems like it is pot luck on that issue, as some do and some don't.
It's funny how you can second guess yourself. I was kicking myself for NOT having Geoff paint the Quad Light Surrounds in the UK, as my local guy only did an OK paint job. I ended up having him re-paint them though, so they ended up fine.
After mine were installed, I still was not happy with the gaps so I replaced the nylon wing nuts with stainless ones to get a better purchase, and was able to position everything better. Still not 100% perfect, but much better. Once they have been on the car for a while you will not keep noticing every fractional difference. As I mentioned before, I think that it is worth the effort to apply a bit of Silicone from the inside as extra insurance against ANY water finding it's way in.
The look of the lights are surely a matter of individual taste as with any mod, but I definitely do like them. I am quite sure that your pictures do not really do the car justice and it looks far better in person. MY Quad Light are a HUGE improvement to my rear end's look, and I have had nothing but raving reviews from anyone that actually looks at them rather than a picture. I would do it again in a heartbeat!! I have a set of McLeod X-Pipes in transit right now and that will complete my rear end's look.

Thanks Brian, I'm happy with the new look. And yes, they do look better in person vs. pics. Though I want to order another pair of LED rings to replace the red reflectors. I don't think the additional current draw will be significant.
Yours looks nice too. How are you mounting your resistors? I'm also using stainless nuts, mine didn't come with nylon nuts. The only problem I see is that the inner and outer shells are only held together by 4 very small studs. I hope they don't pull loose over time.

Hey Mike,
If you change the outer rings, please post pics as I would be very interested in seeing them.
After the Body Shop guy wired my LED Lights w/resistors in..........I still had an intermittant error message on the dash. I had my usual Brit Mechanic check them and they still did not work properly, so he wired in normal bulbs and removed the resistors completely. That solved the problem 100%.
Good luck,
Brian
