I have a 2003 XKR and I’m interested in removing/replacing just the vertical plastic bumper covers (item #13). This thread suggests that removing the entire front cover is required (very cumbersome) for installing a new mesh grill. Is the same procedure required for just the bumper covers (which part shows only two screw holes for attaching)?

I just installed a Mina Gallery grille, and have a couple of comments. Many people just install the aftermarket grill over the existing grill and over the existing aluminum bumper extensions. The plastic covers fit over the bumper extensions.
I’ve read on the forum they some people had overheating issues when doing the “layered grille” type installation. The grill opening is on the small side as it is. Jamming it up with more mesh is not the way to improve airflow.
the plastic parts can be removed without taking off all be bumper cover , ie the plastic nose cone. But doing so will usually rip off the tabs that help them in place. So expect to use some other attachment arrangement if you force the plastic overrider covers off without first removing the bumper cover . It’s not that hard of a job to remove the cover. Six screws and a plastic pin on top and three bolts on each side that are hidden by the wheel well cover. All in all, about an hours work to get the bumper cover off.
I removed the stock XKR grille and the two center bumper overriders before putting in the Mina grille. They allowed me to inset the Mina grille up against the bumper on the end and space it out from the bumper in the middle area for a nice modest convex look, yet still have it inset and not be flush with the grille opening, a look I didn’t care for.
I ended up with more air getting to the radiators and coolers, not less. The engine temperature might be 4-5 degrees cooler after the installation as per the reading on the Autool X60 gauge.
