Default Intermittent Fuel gauge issue

Hi All,

I have a 2000 XKR with an annoying problem.
The fuel gauge will be reading the correct level when it will drop to empty for no reason at all.
This occurs at random and it returns to normal at random as well.

Has anyone experienced this or knows what the fix would be.

Thanks,
John

The sending unit probably has a intermittent connection at the connector on the side of the fuel tank. Order a new one and make sure that the tank level is low. Then, you can remove the sending unit and install the new one. I did that when my sending unit was intermittent. Actually, I was able to repair the replaced unit by re-soldering the connections on the sending unit itself. I now keep it as a spare.

There are 2 possibilities. One the fuel sender itself is going bad and second you may have a loose/damaged connection at the sender unit. You can inspect and or change the unit without pulling the fuel tank. When the carpet is removed at the forward bulkhead in the trunk the unit is easy to locate on the face of the tank. You need to be sure the fuel is low so that you can remove the unit if necessary.

Just what Paul said. Posted 2 minutes ahead of me. LOL

That sending unit is serviced from the top of the tank. The tank provided in the American market for the 2000 XKR has the sending unit mounted on the rear face of the tank.
