Question Intermittent 'no crank' when turning key

Greets,

Ive been experiencing intermittent 'no cranck' when turning key to start engine.
This happens maybe 1/15 starts and always has started on second attempt when this happens (power fully off->start-> ok).
Can this be transponder / start motor issue or something else?
Torque does not pull any codes.

Br,

This happened with my XKR quite often in the past. It seemed to cure itself which was nice but I feel like I am sleeping with one eye open. What I had to do was jiggle the shifter around a bit and that would work. I also learned that if I locked and unlocked the door it would work. I suspected that I had some sort of electrical glitch. My car also throws the alarm off about 1 out of every 50 times I lock the car. There is clearly something going on but it is not often enough where I am going to go through the hassle and likely high cost of diagnosing and replacing things.

I think that is right, our car does not require the foot on the brake to start (brake switch), but require it to be in (P) or (N). (P) or (N) positions are passed on the the TCM with the help of individual switches that are known fail to work reliably over time. These switches are part of the shifter base and can be replaced, I believe they are very common. As pointed above the test is to either jiggle the shifter in (P) before starting, or move to (N) to see if it starts reliably. You will have to press the brake pedal to shift out of (P). Also, the TCM illuminates the current shifter position by reading the switches and then sending a CAN message for illumination to the module (this is not a simple circuit). You might want to make a habit of checking if (P) is illuminated before starting the car. If it is not, you know your TCM does not know your car is in (P) and will prevent cranking.

I'm going to throw out something I would check. Check your battery and starter connections especially grounds. Good Luck
