Default Jaguar ever change / reuse part numbers?

This is curious. I'd like to get my castor reading straightened out, so I decided to buy new thick and thin shims. Second to last time I reassembled that bolt I couldn't find one of the shims. Good news, we here at the forum published the specs, which list the exact width for each of them.

My trusty tool box had a bunch of washers, found one exactly 2x the width of the thick shim. Been using that, but as I once said - it caused "confusion" at pep boys. They refused to work on "non stock equipment not approved by Jaguar." Deep breath, move past that memory;-).

Anyway, I looked up the part numbers:
MJA1467AA and MJA1467BA.

Ordered them from jaguar parts, got some kind of flexible plastic / rubber circular bush.

The guys at the part counter double checked - that's what these part numbers are connected to. IOW i got what I asked for. Now I'm trying to track this down.

A search on these part numbers brings up a photo of the metal shims I want from independent retailers (jag bits, Terry's Jag). When I look at the results from various jaguar dealers it reads as a shim, but no photos. The picture drawn next to the part number looks more like what I got than a metal washer like shim.

This isn't urgent or anything, I figure I'll drop by the dealer on Monday and we can look at the diagram together but the SNB Barrett catalog has always been flawless so far. I'm not sure what to expect.

Have you ever heard of them retiring and reusing a part number? I can't imagine they would.

Anyone have any experience ordering these shims from jaguar?
Any thoughts, am I missing something obvious?

In any event I'll keep this updated for future reference.

John

I find it hard to believe that Jaguar would "recycle" a part number in that way. Even when they update parts, the new part has a new number. I just searched MJA1467AA on the SNG Barrat site (with XK8/R to 2006 as the filter) and it shows the metal shims exactly as expected. In other words I think your parts supplier has got it wrong.

Dibbit, yeah I agree. Problem is I help the bloody jaguar packed and labeled bags in my hands and looked right at the part # on it!

Well should be an interesting visit on Monday! Thanks,

John

Weird. It doesn't help that their drawings often look nothing like the real thing - take part #2 in the diagram you posted, looks nothing like the bush in real life.

It will be interesting to hear what you find out.

Visited jaguar today. Parts guys looked into it. Found a bag of thin shims, proper part numbers listed. They still had the incorrectly labeled bags to view. They kind of cursed the Land Rover side of their business under their breath, explained that this must be mislabeled products. They should have my thick shims tomorrow.

BTW- this is one of the few times Jaguars price is below independent parts shops. Cost at the jag counter: about $4.00 each.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things that is one of Jaguar's smallest screw ups when it comes to our cars.

Well I visited jaguar today. Turns out I've stirred things up all the way to corporate HQ. Apparently the last thing they want/need is if this was mislabeled globally.

So, sounds like the part # is still correct, they're going to dig around and see if they can corral 3 thick ones for me.

Just thought you'd be interested, I'm going to close this thread.
